Chapter 3

"So what did you want to talk to me about" Beck repeated as he and Jade sat eating breakfast. Jade nibbled at her toast, unable to stand the nausea from binge drinking 

"Beck... I don't want you to think that I lied to you ok? Because there aren't any lies to tell" she stared at him with total seriousness

"ok...?" he looked confused as he cut into his peanut butter pancake

"I just don't want it to come between u-" her eyes started to rim with tears

"It won't J... I'm really worried... what's wrong?" he reached across the table and grabbed her cold hand

"I don't think we can have kids" she burst into tears. Crying was very uncommon for Jade Oliver and she only ever cried in front of her husband or Cat... before she met Alex

Silence filled the large kitchen and only the faint sound of cars from the street could be heard in the distance

"H-how do you know?" Beck asked

"Remember our trip to Mexico 2 summers ago?" Jade asked and Beck responded with a nod "well... a few months after that I was late and I totally freaked out but I didn't want to tell you until I was sure... and... well... it was negative" she had stopped crying by this point but stared into her husbands bright eyes "Despite freaking out, I was kinda excited at the idea of a mini-me so I stopped taking the pill... I knew that you wanted kids and I didn't want to put pressure on it or anything so I thought I'd surprise you when it happened" she squeezed his hand and softly said "but it didn't happen Beck...I don't think we... I don't think I can have kids" one singular tear dropped from her piercing green eyes and onto the glass table below

"Jade... I can't believe you've gone through this on your own" he wrapped her in a hug before releasing to look at her "things like this take time-"

"Not 2 fucking years" Jade scoffed

"Maybe not... but we can see every baby doctor in Los Angeles if that's what it takes... we will be parents... and fucking amazing ones!" he kissed her softly and she broke into a smile

"I'm sorry for not telling you... I didn't want to hurt your feelings" 

"It's ok... no secrets ok" he reached out his pinky finger

"ok" she swung hers around his and they laughed

6 weeks later 

Beck and Jade sat anxiously in the waiting room of the renowned doctor to the stars Jonah Kelly. Beck looked at his wife, she was humming the tune to Pirates of the Caribbean- a unique coping mechanism she'd always performed when under high anxiety and stress, probably stemmed from her yearly family visits to Disneyland as a child when they constantly argued and left their children to suffer

"What time are we going to Tori's tonight?" Beck broke the silence, hoping that by talking she would forget her stress

"7:30 for takeout" Jade sighed "I don't like small talk Beck you know that"

"Sorry... I thought you might want to talk"

"I certainly don't want to discuss Vega" she snapped 

Before Beck could retaliate the receptionist used their code names "Mr and Mrs Lawrence?" to call them into the office. As quite high profile actors, the Olivers wanted to make sure the press didn't find out... thankfully Dr Kelly offered a code-name service 

Jade grabbed Becks hand and squeezed tight as they walked towards the office.

Jade sat awkwardly in the chair whilst Beck held her hand and stroked her hair 

"So Mr and Mrs Oliver... or should I say Lawrence" the Doctor laughed "I hear you have concerns about your fertility" 

the couple nodded 

"How long have you been trying?" he grabbed his clipboard and began reading a list of questions

"I stopped taking the pill 2 years ago... shortly after we got married" Jade gulped

"Ok, have either of you got a family history of fertility issues?" 

Both of them shook their heads 

"Have you ever had a miscarriage or an abortion?" the Doctor probed

"I had a miscarriage when I was 17, It was way too early for me to even know I was pregnant but the doctor said it was a miscarriage when I described my cramp intensity" Jade responded 

"Ok... I'm just going to do a quick exam and see what we can do" he smiled positively 

Jade stared into Beck's eyes with immense vulnerability

After completing the exam, Dr Kelly sat in his chair and smiled at Beck and Jade. "Everything looks good to me, there is no scar tissue in your uterus from the miscarriage which could impede future pregnancies so I believe you can carry a child... you may just need a little bit of help conceiving" 

"Ok" Beck sounded hopeful "So how do we do that?"

"I'm going to prescribe hormone injections which you should take twice a day, this should speed up the process and result in a successful pregnancy" 

"Injections" Jade rolled her eyes "at least its the good pain" 

"Haha" Dr Kelly looked at her awkwardly "I must warn you, it will give you increased hormonal reactions almost instantly... so try not to worry if you feel overly emotional, angry or even happy... it affects different women in different ways"

"Lets hope for the latter" Beck cracked a joke as Jade rolled her eyes in response 

"I'll give you the first round now and then you can leave" he smiled and prepared the needle for insertion 

Beck and Jade left feeling a whirlwind of emotions, will this work?
