-7:00 AM-I turn over in my bed, not caring about the obnoxious blinking 7:00 AM shining directly into my face from my alarm clock. I futilely tried to cover my head with a pillow to block out the light, to no avail. All right, all right. Damn, can't I sleep in for once?! I threw off the covers and slid out of bed onto the wooden floor. I pulled my feet back to my bed after realizing how icey the floor felt. using my sleepy brain I desperately searched for my slippers Great. I left my slippers in the living room last night. I flopped back down into my bed, defeated.
As I've learned now. In comparison to my recent circumstances, today started off lovely.
-7:15 AM-
I sauntered down my stairs, still slipperless, and still wearing my pajamas. Which consisted of a stained star wars t-shirt and matching sweatpants. It was still too early before class to brush my messy brown hair. I reached the bottom and turned into my kitchen, which was small, outdated, and occasionally had a strange smell to it. I opened our cabinet and poured myself a large bowl of lucky charms; turning to my fridge I was met by.... no milk. I groaned and shut the door, slammed the door was more accurate. I sadly grabbed my dry bowl of cereal and shuffled to the living room. On the couch were 3 things, my brother Quinn, watching modern family, my slippers, and my slowly disintegrating volume 1 black butler manga. I looked towards Quinn, with one hand on my hip.
"Ahem?" Quinn turned from the tv, smiling
"can I help you?" he beamed. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"you're in my spot." I looked at him expectantly. Quinn was currently sprawled out on the couch like the subject of a Renaissance painting. I don't know why I expected him to act normal.
"Oh" he mockingly looked around the couch "I didn't see your name on it"
"That was so funny I forgot to laugh." I said dryly; while putting my bowl on the coffee table next to my manga. Quinn's eyes followed my hand and focused on the manga. He made a move towards it, too quickly for me to snatch it away.
"What's this?" he flipped through the pages. A grin spread across his face before turning into a full-on cackle. He started mockingly reading the lines of dialogue to me:
"OOooH SebAs-Channnnnn" he started. Along with reading a good few pages verbatim, over-dramatic faces and all. After a solid minute, he was dying with laughter. All the while my face was flushed with a mixture of anger and embarrassment.
It's too early for me to deal with this right now
"Emily." he turned to me, wiping a tear from his eye. " this shit is so corny how do you even read this unironically?" My face went redder than I thought humanly possible; I roughly grabbed the book from him and clutched it protectively under my arm.
"hey! just because you're older than me doesn't mean you can treat me like this!" I shouted
Quinn looked at me, still giggling, and then turned back to the tv. I was boiling at this point; first the slippers, then the cereal, now him.
"fine!" I yelled and angrily stomped away, that morning I ate my dry cereal on the stairs. In hindsight, I would have just forgiven him, even hugged him. Knowing what would have happened later that night...
-8:30 AM-
Look. I won't bore you with details of my life. after one of the lousiest mornings of the year, I went to school. Honestly, for once in my life school was actually quite good, in comparison to my day so far...
I hopped off the bus. in front of my high school, Clearwater high. The sky was really dark and looked like it was going to start raining. Thinking quickly I put the hood of my coat up. Briskly walking I stared up at the faded name of my school: I live in Michigan, and other than lake Michigan there's no water around, Lake Michigan is definitely not clear and can barely be considered water. I waded through the sea of kids getting to class and I feel a rough push from behind and heard a "keep moving" as someone impatiently cut in front of me to get to class.
