As I ran down the street toward school, my phone beeped.
Quest Added....? When did I download a game?
BEEEEP!
I yelped and tripped over my feet as a car swerved out of the way and the driver yelled at me.
"Hey kid! Get off yer phone and pay attention to where you're walking!"
I suddenly realized I was running straight through the intersection.
"S-Sorry!" I yelled, running quickly to the sidewalk and stuffing my phone back in my pocket.
I checked my watch as I continued running.
7:42 AM
I should make it before class starts, whew.
As I ran up on the school, I bumped into Rocco. He had a black eye and a bandage on his right cheek.
"J-Jeez, man...Did they do all that to you?" I asked, feeling a strong spike of anxiety at the thought of what happened yesterday.
He averted his eyes to the ground, and nodded quietly. Guilt hit me like a train. I reached out and grabbed his shoulder, causing him to flinch. I almost jerked my hand back, but he eased up quickly. We paused.
"Rocco, I'm sorry...I didn't mean for us to get hurt, I-"
"It's okay, amigo...I wanted to help him too."
I couldn't tell if he was lying to make me feel better or if he really did want to help.
"Just forget about it, okay?" He looked me in the eyes, his dark brown eyes pleading.
"Y-Yeah, alright man."
We continued heading toward the school.
"I had a weird dream last night..." Rocco broke the short silence.
I remembered my own nightmare as he spoke.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I dunno, it was kind of weird...It was like I woke up in the middle of the night, and my window was open. When I got up to shut it, I caught something weird out of the corner of my eye. Looked like a demon, amigo. It grinned real wide, had these crazy sharp teeth," he pulled up his lips as if to demonstrate, "and shouted my name. Next thing I knew it was morning."
I stopped in my tracks, causing him to trip over himself.
"Wh-What?" He suddenly looked nervous as he saw my expression of terror.
"I had the same dream, I think," I responded, my mouth slightly agape.
"Stop fucking with me, esse," He frowned at me and kept walking.
I quickly caught up, "No, man, I'm serious. I didn't get up and shut my window, though. I froze as soon as I saw him, and he had that big sharp-toothed grin. He was like, 7, 8 feet tall, right?"
