"Oh, did you text me...? Sorry, my phone is off..." Her voice cracked again.
"You look...Exhausted," I said, trying to find the right words as I tucked my phone into my pocket.
She wiped her eyes and grinned half-heartedly, "Thanks."
There was a long pause.
"...Why are you here, Link...?" She asked, quickly sliding on a hoodie and going back to sitting on her bed, quickly stuffing something under the blankets.
Her room was so dark I could barely see anything. The moonlight from the window illuminated her plain red blanket on her bed. Two black pillows rested at the head of the bed, closest to the wall with the window on my left. To my right, on the desk she did her studying, a speaker sat playing relaxing guitar instrumentals. It was weirdly atmospheric. It reminded me that I was home.
Mia folded her legs in tight, pressing her face into her knees. She was wearing a pair of boy shorts and the baggie band hoodie she just threw on in a hurry.
I sat down on her bed, kicking my wet shoes and socks off, and laying down in front of her, resting my head on my hands.
"Ah, yaknow. Just stopping by to see my favorite person."
I caught a weak smile creep onto her face. She laid down next to me and we stared at her ceiling. It was dotted with glow-in-the-dark stars.
"I thought Rocco was your favorite person," She teased, sniffling.
I looked at her incredulously, "Whaaat? If anybody, it would be Alec, he at least functions as a sugar daddy for all of my financial needs."
She let out a loud laugh, quickly covering her mouth and elbowing me in the ribs playfully. I found myself grinning.
"I came because I was worried about you. If Alec or Rocco or Jason turned up dead tomorrow, I would be devastated, too..." I trailed off, looking over at her.
She sniffled hard, obviously choking back sobs.
Shit, wrong thing to say...
"I would want you to come and comfort me if that happened. Well, actually, I would probably just come here and make you comfort me," I admitted.
"I'd-I'd come see you," She quickly said, sounding a little slurred.
Has she been...Drinking...?
I grinned, "I'm glad. I think I would need it."
Suddenly a thought crossed my mind.
"What if you lost me?" I blurted out.
"What...?"
"I-I mean, like...Who would you turn to if I turned up dead tomorrow?" I asked.
"U-Um...Nobody, I guess..."
She turned on her side, averting her gaze entirely to me. I looked over and met it.
"What about you? Who would you go to?"
I pondered the question for a minute.
"Well, I mean...I'm close with Rocco, but I dunno...When it comes to you, I don't think I would be able to talk to him about it. Alec almost feels like a father to me in a way, and I think even talking to him would be too hard...Jason and I are buddies, but I'm not sure I'm that close with him."
"So...Nobody?" She asked.
I shook my head, "Nobody. Guess we'd better not go dying on each other, huh?"
