The walk to Moomin house was a relaxing short walk away from my cottage. I am pleased to have the Moomin family live not too far away from me. It brings me comfort to know if I need anything I can go to them for help or advice. We walked along the path to their house for a while engaging in polite conversation.  I also wanted to ask them more questions about the valley.

I quicken my pace to walk alongside the two Moomins

"What do you like most about living in Moominvalley?"

"It's quiet. Perfect for a writer such as myself to concentrate and be inspired"

Moominmamma thinks for a moment before giving her answer.

"Hmmm I like living here because it is were my family and friends live." she smiled

"That's so lovely to hear. Do you live with your family?" I inquire

The Moomins stop walking as if they just remembered something. I stop and look back at them.

"Goodness, I guess we forgot to mention that we live with our son Moomintroll." Said Moominmamma looking a little embarrassed. We continued walking

"What is Moomintroll like?"

"He is a little bit younger than you but is very responsible and a cheerful lad. He spends most of his days going on adventures with his group of friends" Moominpappa sounds very proud of his son.

"We should tell you that tonight you will meet Moomintroll and all his friends. We have organized dinner for all of them to celebrate the first day of spring. I apologise we didn't mention that earlier" Said Moominmamma

"That's perfectly fine. I look forward to meeting them"

Luckily I don't mind meeting new people. I had to introduce myself to new people all the time back where I use to live. I still felt a little nervous but the Moomins talk very highly of their son and his friends. This eases my nerves enough to concentrate on the idea of possibly making new friends in Moominvalley.

As the sun is beginning to set, I can see the Moomins house on top of a hill. It was different from the types of houses that I've seen from my home town, but I'm still very impressed by it. The Moomins walk me through the front door. Moominpappa offers to take my suitcase upstairs to my room and Moominmamma goes to prepare dinner. I follow Moominmamma into the kitchen hoping I can help her as a way to say thank you for letting me stay for the night. A part of me hopes she doesn't ask me to help cook because I'm embarrassed to admit that I never learned how to. For I moment I watch in awe of how quickly she started chopping up vegetables, slicing bread, and stirring all the ingredients together in a pot. It was mesmerizing to watch.

"Is there anything I can do to help Moominmamma?"

"Yes actually, could you please start setting up the table?"

It seemed easy enough. She points me to the cabinet with the plates and cutlery. I set the table with enough space for the Moomin family and their friends.

I walk back into the kitchen to find Moominmamma completing the final touches for dinner "The table is set, is there anything else I can do?"

"Dinner is almost ready, how about you take a seat. I am sure Moomintroll and the others will be here soon"

I do as Moominmamma says and take a seat at the dining table. Shortly after I take a seat I start to hear voices come through the front door. I quickly fix my posture when a smaller Moomin creature with blue eyes walks in. He must be the Moomins son. Then the rest of his friends walk in after him. Another creature that looked like a Moomin but with blond hair, a brown creature with big ears, and a short girl with red hair. "Who the heck are you?!" asked the short red-headed girl. She jumps up on the dining table and looks at me very displeased.

This took me a little off guard but thankfully Moominmamma walks in to save me.

"Everyone I want you to say hello to (Y/N), she is new to Moominvalley and will be staying here tonight"

Moomintroll walks forward and introduces himself "Hello (Y/N) my name is Moomintroll" He then gestures to his friends "This is Snorkmaiden, that's Sniff and the angry little one is Little My." Little my turns to Moomintroll with a frown.

I stand up from my seat and use all of the strength in my body to not curtsy. "It's a pleasure to meet you all"

"All off you can take a seat and I'll quickly bring out dinner," Moominmamma said as she walks back to the kitchen. Everyone gathers around the table and takes their seat as Moominmamma brings out the food. I noticed that one seat is still left open, I'm certain that Moominmamma said that four of Moomins friends were having dinner with us.

"Moomin, is Snufkin still coming for dinner?" Ask Moominpappa as he and Moominmamma take their seats at the ends of the table.

"He said he will join us for dinner after he sets up his tent"

Just as he said this, we hear footsteps come through the front door.

I look up to the doorway to see a young man with messy brown hair, who wore a matching moss green coat and hat. I noticed that he looked at me with surprise, but I suppose that is logical because I'm new to the valley.

Moomin spoke up "Snufkin! This is (Y/N), she is going to live in Moomin Valley from now on"

I quickly stood up from my chair

"It's nice to meet you sir" I extend my hand over the dining table for a handshake. He looks to me and returns my handshake. His hands were noticeably ruff and dirty, but he held my hand so gently.

"You can just call me Snufkin." He said with a welcoming smile.

"Yes of course," I said feeling a little embarrassed.

Snufkin and I take our seats and everyone at the table continues to eat their meals.

"So (Y/N) where did you live before you moved to Moominvalley," Moomin asked

"I come from a town called Willow Hills, it's only a day's walk away"

"Ah yes, I've heard of it. Apparently it's a lovely place to live," Moominpappa remarked

Moomintroll looks over at Snufkin. "Have you been there before, Snufkin?"

"Hm, I have visited a few times"

Moomin looked back to me and asked, "Do you have any family in Willow Hills?"

"Yes, I lived with my older brother, his wife and a few of our attendants"

This seemed to peak Snorkmaiden's attention. "Attendants? Do you mean ladies in waiting? Like the one that serves duchesses and princesses?" Her eyes seem to glimmer with excitement.

"Oh! Goodness no, my family and I social standing isn't at that level. We live with attendants because we are usually too busy to look after the upkeep of the house. To me, they feel more like members of our family"

"How did you become the owner of the cottage near the forest?" Asked Moominpappa

"I inherited it from my mother and father," I said looking down at my plate in silence.

I didn't want to bring down the mood by talking about my late parents.

So I quickly change the subject by asking them questions about Moomin Valley, what are their hobbies and interest. It was a lovely dinner with the Moomins. I've never met such a colorful group of people like this before, they all have unique qualities about them.  They all made me feel very welcomed, as the night continued all my nerves and anxieties seemed to fade away.
