After the incident with the three-headed dog, Hermione ceased all contact with Harry and Ron. Aiden, wanting to be friends with all of them, went back and forth between the two groups, though looked to be favouring Hermione.

A few days before Halloween, Hermione sat in the library with Neville, who was looking for help with a Transfiguration assignment. She couldn't help but listen in to a few fourth-year Slytherins talking.

"You know, I thought Craddock might have been different but from I've seen, he acts like his father, the blood-traitor."

"I think he's a bit intimidated by Malfoy."

*snort* "Malfoy's a joke Caitlyn. Although they do seem to keep the family rivalry going."

Having heard enough, Hermione thought about they said. 'Aiden's family has a rivalry with Malfoy's. I haven't heard of that before.'

Turning over to her study partner, Hermione decided to get answers.

"Hey Neville?"

"Yes, Hermione?"

"Have you heard about some sort of rivalry between the Craddocks and the Malfoys?"

The boy thought for a moment before he answered."I do but just the beginning. The only other way to know more about the Craddocks is to buy books about them in Wales."

Hermione looked joyous at the prospect of new books before telling Neville to talk about the rivalry.

Taking a deep breath, Neville began. "Well, you see Hermione, the Craddocks killed King Harold and so brought in the reign of William the Conqueror , so they brought in a few wizard families from Normandy. The Malfoys were one of those families. All the Norman families respected the Craddocks for giving them England.

Then came 1674. At the time, the Head of the Craddocks was the eldest of three brothers, who valued family above all else. The Head of the Malfoys had two sons: one was 17 and the other was 7.

The eldest son decided to sexually assault the middle brother's intended. For the insult, the Head Craddock wanted to duel the Head Malfoy for satisfaction. The Craddock was killed. However, his brothers wanted revenge because Malfoy cheated by using two wands. They burned Malfoy Manor to the ground, while it was rebuilt in 1743, the Malfoys never forgot about it. None of the occupants survived, except for the youngest son, Draconicus.

The Malfoys were left penniless and homeless and Draconicus wanted to change that. He blamed the Craddocks and wanted revenge. Ten years later he went to Craddock Manor with the same intention the brothers had with Malfoy Manor but he was caught by the yougest brother.

Draconicus and the brother dueled and in the end, Malfoy lost but was humiliated when the brother let him live. To add insult to injury, the Craddocks gave Malfoy some Galleons and a place to live. This brought the Malfoys some prestige back but they hated it because it was out of pity and so, humiliating.

The Craddocks and Malfoys never repaired the relationship, they were like Gryffindor and Slytherin. That hatred and rivalry thus continues to this day."

Hermione looked open-mouthed at Neville. "Wow. That's really interesting." She thought for a bit. "So that's why when Aiden and I walk together, Malfoy normally insults him the most."

"Yep. The Malfoys may hate non-purebloods but they hate the Craddocks more."

After a few more minutes of studying, Hermione and Neville left the library, Hermione with new knowledge of her friend.
