Percy's POV:
I glanced at Annabeth just in time to see her mouth twitch briefly into a small smile. It vanished even faster than it appeared, though, and she went right back to business. "We have to figure this out, Percy. If we don't have some sort of plan, how will this work at all? I mean--"
She had started rambling, so I decided to cut her off right there. "Chill. It's okay. Let's just go to my mom's house. We can finish making a plan there."
Annabeth visibly relaxed. "Yeah, that should be fine." She paused for a moment before adding "But we have to actually get some work done."
At this point we had arruved at my dad's house to drop off Tyson, so I got out of the car to bring him to the door. I talked to my stepmother for a minute at the door, but we stopped because I had to go back with Annabeth, and Tyson was asking his mom if he could have peanut butter for a snack.
When I got back to the car, Annabeth looked confused. "She seemed... nice?" She was clearly trying not to pry, but unable to hide the question in her voice and on her face.
I couldn't figure out why she was confused, until I remembered that I had basically told her that my stepmother was a monster. I had meant my mom's first husband, Gabe, when I said I had a terrible step-parent, but when she asked, I couldn't bear to tell her about him. "Yeah, um..." I sighed. "Look, I didn't actually mean her when I said I've had a terrible step-parent."
She frowned at me, a mix of concern and confusion on her face. "But, earlier you said--"
"No, I know what I said earlier," I interrupted her. "I just couldn't tell you about..." I faltered again, and Annabeth noticed. She had started driving now, so she didn't look at me, but she reached across the car to lay her hand on my shoulder reassuringly.
After a moment she slowly moved her hand away. "It's okay, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I just want to be sure you're alright."
"I'm okay. Don't worry," I assured her. "When I said I've had a terrible step parent, I was talking about my step father... My first step father!" I hurriedly added as her eyes widened in shock. "Again, not Paul. He's great. Gabe wasn't, but he's dead now, so it doesn't matter."
Annabeth still looked worried, but finally she said "Okay, as long as you're alright."
We spent the remaining few minutes of the drive in silence.
Okay, so this chapter is only about half as long as the last couple, but this just felt like a good spot to end the chapter.
I'm really sorry for the infrequent updates the last couple weeks. I was in 2 AP classes this year, and I had the AP tests for both of them last week, so for the last couple weeks I've been trying to prepare as much as possible for them, so I didn't have much time for writing. The next chapter will hopefully be longer and up more quickly, but I make no promises. I'm almost done with school, though, so soon I'll have more time for writing again.
Let me know what you think, and, again, feel free to give me any constructive criticism you can. Thanks for reading. Hope you liked it.

Greatest Love Story- A Percabeth AU [On Hold]
FanfictionThis is a Percabeth AU (if you somehow hadn't already figured that out from the title), based on a song that has reminded me a little bit of Percabeth each time I listen to it, ever since I first heard it. I will put a link to the song on here, but...
