Chapter Two

I walked home that night, up my long meandering street, into my house. Now some people may think I’m rich, but I’m not, my house is average size but it is comfy and inviting. I live with just my older brother because my parents are divorced and spend more time with their new other halves than with their children. Ya, totally average.

“Hey hey, the best looking Stewart is home” I yelled, kicking open my door, totally ninja like.

“Ha, only in your dreams Lex.” Damian, my older brother that took care of me yelled down the stairs. Damian and I lived alone, legally because he was 21 and my legal guardian according to city hall. I love him to death! But I do worry about him. He often drinks and looks like he is stoned. I wouldn’t blame him though. He took Mum and Dad’s divorce really bad, and got super pissed when they left us here to fend for ourselves. He still had a love life and everything so it wasn’t like he sat and drank all day and didn’t pay attention to his life. His girlfriend, Allison (Alli) stayed over a lot of nights and helped me cook and clean and all that fun stuff. She is my sister and I love her, period, if she is dating Damian or not!

“You are not going to believe what happened to me today! You remember Justin right?” I asked.

“Tall, dark hair and skin, brown eyes? Ya I remember him.” He said. I know he hates him so I was bouncing with excitement to tell him what I did.

“Well, from this day forward you are going to love me ten times more because I broke his nose for dumping me and humiliating me in front of the whole school! He was like ‘Your ugly and a bitch and I hate you’ and I was like ‘Bring it on jerk!’ it was pretty intense.” I said, sounding satisfied. Damian’s eyebrows were lost in his hairline and his jaw was touching the floor.

“Wait, you expect me to love you MORE?!” he asked.

“Really Damian! Is that all you heard?! Thanks for listening, dork.” I laughed at him and ran up the stairs to my room before he could call me something worse than a dork. I know he is proud of me for standing up for myself, but I could see that small flicker and discomfort. He loved a fight just as much as Julie, but he hated them if I was involved. So protective ;)

“Lex! Alli and I are going for a long run. There is Mac and cheese in the pantry and a sub in the fridge. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” he said through the door, and then he was off. Great, the entire house to myself for the night.

After dinner I hopped in the shower. I always loved the shower; it was always a special time for me to solve the world’s problems. Ha-ha, solve the world’s problems; I can’t even solve my own! But I love the relaxation of a shower. After that I decided it was movie time. I am such a little kid and I absolutely love Disney movies. My favorite is Finding Nemo. There is just something about how the dad is just so determined to get him back that makes my heart melt.

About half way through the movie (and my tub of ice cream:P) I heard a soft knock at the door. At first I ignored it because I was so focused on my movie that I was sure I was just hearing things.  But when I heard it for like the third time, I finally got out of my super comfy position and answered the door. When I opened it I turned around and headed for the couch again, I mean it was just Damian. Wait. Damian has keys so why…? I froze in mid-step and turned on my heel to face the door. My spoon fell out of my hand and hit the floor and Adam stepped into my house. The first thing that came out of my mouth was,

“Holy crap” I whispered, and then I felt the anger that I felt earlier and started to scream at him. “What the hell are you doing here! You think you can humiliate me in front of the school and just waltz into my house like nothing happened! Are you insane, or do you just have a death wish?!” I screamed at him, my hands balled into fist at my side and I was positive that the vein on my forehead was visible from a mile away. I was going to hit him, hard.

“Lex, chill.” He said, smirking at me. Did this idiot really just tell me to chill?! Oh my gosh, I am going to kill him. I opened my mouth to tell him to stuff it, stop calling me Lex and call me by my real name (Alexandra) and get the heck out of my house but he grabbed both of my arms and kissed me. Ya, kissed me. For a second I forgot that we fought, but then it all rushed back to me. I tried to yank my arms out of his grip, but he just held tighter. I felt his tongue flick across my upper lip, basically telling me what was going to happen next. As soon as he tried to put his tongue in my mouth, I bit down and tasted blood.

“What the…!” He screamed. “Really Lex! I was just trying to do that ‘One last kiss goodbye’ thing. But noooo, not good enough so you just had to go and bite my tongue. God you are so stupid!” He looked at me waiting for me to retaliate, but my reaction probably wasn’t what he wanted.

          I laughed,

Straight out, hysterically laughed. What an idiot. Did he actually think that was going to make up for everything? I was still laughing like a crazy person as I pushed him out the door and slammed it in his face. As soon as the door shut, the tears started to fall. Next time I see him, I’m going to make him pay for making me cry like this.

As soon as I sat down on the couch with my new, clean spoon and different ice cream, there was another knock on the door. I got up, super aggravated, and ripped the door open.

“What,” I barked at the person standing there. I looked at the guy and stared for an uncomfortably long time. This guy was freaking good looking. He looked like he belonged in a magazine. He had gorgeous floppy brown hair and bright blue eyes. It was still warm outside, so I could see well defined abs under a tight tee-shirt. God, I almost started drooling. Then he opened his mouth to speak and I finally focused on more than his fine body.

“Hey are you ok?” He asked, his voice filled with concern. His voice was low and husky, not in a gross weird way, but a sexy sends-shivers-down-your-spine husky. “I saw what Adam did to you” As he said that, he ran his fingertips over the place on my arm where Adam’s hand held on. I looked down to see a reddish purple mark in the shape of a hand. Nice, a forming bruise, how was I going to explain that to my brother.

“Wait, how did you see what happened?” I asked, my voice cracking in random places. So embarrassing!

He chuckled, “You kind of left the door open and I was walking home from work and I saw everything. Why was he here? I thought you guys broke up.”

“We did,” I said “Wait, how did you know? Do you even go to my school? I have never seen you before.”

“Ya I go to your school. We are in honors calculus together, but I’m a grade ahead of you. I’m a junior.” He smiled. My heart melted a little bit when I saw that he had one perfect dimple on his left check. Perfect dimple… I’ve seen a perfect dimple like that before…

“Oh, OH, I know you!” I squealed. I pulled him inside and slammed the door behind him. “What are you doing here! Mandy is going to kill me if she sees me talking to you!” I said. This was Luke James, upcoming quarterback on the football team, lead freestyle swimmer, musically talented guitar player, and Mandy Wyatt’s ex-boyfriend. She was head cheerleader, Miss totally perfect, and probably this year’s junior prom queen.

“Chill girl! Mandy and I are over, just like you and Adam.” He said, trying to calm me down.

“But this is totally different Luke! Ya, Adam was popular and everyone wanted to be us for a while, but you guys were the ‘It’ couple! You guys were the face of Salem High!” I couldn’t stop pacing. Mandy was going to kill me, or worse, she was going to make me want to do it myself. She was as bad as Adam. Ha, I can imagine them two going out. They would kill each other.

“Oh please, everyone hates who she is and everyone hates what she does. I was lucky I escaped with my life!” Luke said, trying to lighten the mood. It actually worked because I laughed, looked at his smile, and laughed again. It was so hard to be upset around him. He was really easy to talk to. We chatted about Adam and Mandy for a while but to soon he said he needed to leave. I watched him walk all the way up the street till he turned and disappeared into the trees. He is gone, and the warmth that I was just feeling left with him
