Chapter Three

Uggh, Monday morning. I get to face the entire school again and all of their stupid and pesky questions. Uggh I hate people. I already got text messages for like twelve different people. They are like “What happened? Are you ok? Was it you or Adam who ended it? Are you going to get revenge?” They are all so exhausting. Like I said, I hate people.

“Come on Lex lets go! If you aren’t down here in five second, you are walking.”Damian shouted. “Five, four, three, two…” I was at the bottom of the stairs when he said ‘one’ but he ran out the door and sped off.

“Uggh! You JERK!” I shouted after him. Now I have to walk a mile and a half in heels and a dress. I decided to do myself up a little(and show off my hand shaped bruises). I should just skip school. I was still grumbling about half way to school. I looked over my shoulder and down the street a ways, a nice dark icy blue with jet-black racing strips mustang. It was a sweet car. I looked ahead and a minute later, the sound of a sweet car pulling up to the curb startled me.

“Hey” a husky voice yelled to me, “Need a ride?”

“Ha, ya I guess Luke. Thanks” I said, a dorky smile crawled across my face. What is this boy doing to me! I stepped into the car, making sure I didn’t leave any fingerprints on the glossy finish. Wow, this boy needed a lot of money to have a care this nice. I wonder if its turbo or not. Luke was staring at me, like he said something and I missed it.

     “What?” I said.

He chuckled “Ha, I said, do you like the car?”

“Yes” I replied, “I don’t know much about it, but I love cars.” It’s true that I don’t know much, but I, um, really do love cars.

“So, you ready to see Adam again?” He asked me, a crease forming in between his eyebrows, and his smile disappearing. “I can be your personal bodyguard for the day if you want…” His cheeks all of a sudden turned a light pink and he scratched the back of his neck. He looked so cute embarrassed.

“Ha, thanks, but I can take care of myself. In case you didn’t hear, I was the one who broke his nose” I smiled at the thought.

“Ya, I heard. I’m proud of you:) But you know what he can do, I know what he can do, and I just don’t want to see you hurt.” He pulled into school, parking in his usual spot, and turned his full body in my direction to look me in the eyes. I almost melted at the protective yet gentle look in his to blue eyes. He once again ran his fingers over one of my bruises, but instead of letting his hand drop, he ran it down my arm and put his hand over mine.

“T-thank you Luke.” I stutter. I squeeze his hand lightly and get out of the car. I needed to get my breathing back to its normal pace. My hand still tingled with the warmth that radiated off of his. Wow, it was nice to hang with a guy who didn’t act like the world revolved around his head

I walked into class with my prep face on. According to the greeting I got this morning, all of the “It” group hated me. I was ok with going back to being the pretty invisible girl. I sat in my old seat, in the back right hand corner. God I missed this seat. I can look at everyone and they would have to turn around (and get in trouble doing so) to look at me. Mr. Word, oddly enough my social studies teacher who hates vocabulary and English class, just walked in. He looks around the classroom, sits at his desk, and waits. We all know what he is waiting for. Mandy and her group of preps are always late, and because Mandy flipping half the town, including the school, and there is nothing we can do about it. About seven minutes later, Mandy and the rest of the “It’s” walked in. She shot me a vicious look, then turned around and whispered to Adam, who wrapped his arms around her and kissed her on the nose; exactly what he used to do to me. That hurt a little bit, but I plastered a smug grin on my face.
