"What is it Avery?", I asked with the same seriousness lace in my tone. I know that when Avery calls me that she meant serious business.
" I-I decided to —us to go to the park for some ice cream that it...",she mumbled looking at me in the eye while finger combing her red hair with much look like a forced smile.
"I see. Then let's go", I lightened up the subject since asking her now about why she obviously lied into my face was impossible for now, she would just deny and deny until I'd give up.
We both got in the car and Avery texted mom and dad that we would be late than usual then immediately went to the park. The car ride was silent, not awkward but I can tell Avery was lost in her thoughts.
We arrived in the park after a few a while and bought some ice cream as we sat near the bench table.
" This is really good Lori!",Avery exclaimed beside me back to her usual cheery self and I heaved a sighed of relief at that before agreeing with her. She me heaving though as a cute pout form in her pinkish red lips.
"Its almost as tasty as Uncle Edgar's Ice cream back home",she added while licking her Vanilla and mint Ice cream, the same as I ordered.
" Back when we were kids I always thought Chocolate was your all time favorite but why chose Vanilla and mint? ",I asked her out of curiosity after we stayed silent for a few while, just listening to the surrounding noise. It caught her off guard before an adoring smile crept into her lips.
" I just love it",she muttered beside me while staring at the now beautiful sunset cascading the whole city. I followed her gazed and just watched licking my Ice cream for a while.
I finished my Ice cream and just sat beside Avery comfortably as I scanned the whole area smiling a bit at the two old couple and a girl holding both her mom and dad's hand side by side. My eyes landed on the old playground not far away from them as a thought hit me.
It was coincidentally the same in my dreams. The playground where I meet a tall brunette girl with stunning and piercing eyes, and come to think of that I only knew one person with that stunning and piercing hazel eyes. It can't be, I thought mentally.
I squinted her eyes and looked at the familiar swing and a monkey bar beside it which looked like smaller right now than in my dreams. It must be that I was 13 years old from my dream and I've grown old enough for the playground to looked small.
I scanned the other surrounding when I noticed a familiar store where I dragged the beautiful girl along with me to heal her wound in my dreams. It sounds bizarre and full of coincidences or was not.
"Lori?"
"What's wrong Lori?", Avery asked concerned beside me when I didn't answer her. I looked at her and gave her an apologetic smile before shaking my head reassuring her. She didn't looked reassured though as she still had a concerned look on her face.
" I'm just thinking about something Avery, you don't have to worry about it ",I said while standing from my sitting position and held my hand for her to helped her stand up and gladly took it dropping the subject.
" Let's head home "
...
I lead the girl back to the swing to sit and hesitantly looked at me with I give her a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing", I said and she let out a sighed before she obliged and sit on the swing where I first found her earlier. I kneeled in front of her as I opened the small disinfectant from the small bag and my white hanky.
