09| Murderer

She sits next to Owen's body, feeling numb. His blood covers her hands and clothes, but she makes no move to clean herself up. What's the point? He's dead. And she killed him.

She's a murderer.

His phone suddenly rings, and she jumps slightly. It keeps ringing, and she reaches his hand for his jacket and takes it out of his pocket. 

Jade.

She swipes the screen with her bloody fingers and puts it next to her ear.

"So, did you find her?" Her worried voice asks from the other side of the line. 

She opens her mouth but no words come out. She can't bring herself to say anything.

"Owen? Are you there? I can hear you breathing..."

She's a murderer. She stabbed him to death.

"Owen...come on, don't do this to me. I'm so fucking worried about her."

He's dead. She killed him.

"Oh God...I'll just-- I'll go over to her apartment right now. I can't take this anymore. I can't just sit here. Come on, answer me!"

"No. Don't come here," she manages to say. "I'll hurt you too."

"Ruth? Ruth, oh my God, are you okay? Are you-- why did you leave? Did you go back to that apartment? I told you to not go back there!"

All she can do is stare at Owen's dead body lying in front of her.

"Wait," Jade says quietly. "What...what do you mean 'I'll hurt you too'?"

I killed Ori. I killed Owen. And I'll kill Jade too if she gets here. No, not me. That thing, whatever it was, does the killing, not me.

"Ruth? Where's Owen? Ruth, I'm scared. You're-- you're scaring me. Ruth! Ruth, please talk to me or I'll come over there right now."

"I said don't come here." Her voice sounds blank. Just like what she's feeling. Numb.

"Ruth, don't fucking do this to me. Tell me what's going on."

"He's dead. I killed him," she states, still staring at his body.

Her words are met with silence.

"Owen's dead," she repeats, more to herself.

"What...what do you mean dead?" She hears Jade sobbing, but she can't bring herself to say or feel anything.

"Ruth, answer me! What do you mean he's dead! What-"

"He's dead."

"Ruth-"

"I said he's dead!" she screams. Why is she screaming? What's happening? Why is he dead? She feel like she's losing her mind. Her thoughts don't make any sense.

But then it suddenly hits her.

Owen's dead. She knew that already, but this time it sank in, and her brain processed it.

She screams on the top of her lungs. She crawls to his body, still pressing his phone against her ear. "Jade! Owen's dead!" She sobs, stretching her hand towards him but not being able to touch him.

All she hears is Jade's loud sobs.

"Oh God, Jade! Oh God! Oh God!" Ruth keeps screaming.

"Ruth, okay calm down, okay?" Jade sniffles. "Tell me what happened."
