Chapter Two:
The door opens and you turn around to see someone standing in the doorway. The lights from their apartment are on behind them but you can't see their face too well. You strain to see their face and they step out of the doorway and right into a spot of light and you see a friendly smiling face. You come short of breath as your mind races to come up with a way to explain how you came across him.
This is impossible! I must be dreaming...
Standing in front of you is the person you look up to the most. It's the Youtuber Markiplier. You stand there in shock, not able to say a word.
I can't believe that I stumbled across Mark...
He has bloodshot eyes and looks completely exhausted but the smile he had on his face made it clear that it didn't matter how tired he was.
"Hello. How may I help you?" he asks with a cheerful tone.
Your mind races to come up with a way to explain your situation but you blurt out.
"Thank you."
A confused look comes across his faces but after a moment he chuckles lightly and a spark of curiosity shines in his eyes.
"This is a first. Are you a fan?"
You nod, still not able to believe that you stumbled along Mark's apartment and you are standing in front of him.
"I'm really sorry to be bothering you this late at night..." you say quietly.
I always imagined meeting him one day, at a con, but this is definitely not how I pictured meeting him for the first time.
"It's ok! I was up anyway. I generally always stay up this late because I'm recording videos. What can I do to help you out?" he says cheerfully.
"I'm lost and have no idea how to get home. This is what I get for going on a walk so late at night. Plus it doesn't help that I moved here a week ago so I have no idea what the layout of the neighborhood is."
"This is an interesting time to take a walk. Why so late at night though?" Mark asks with curiosity.
"I just wanted to get out of the house" you reply quickly.
Mark folds his arms and leans against the doorway.
"What happened at your house that made you go on a walk so late at night?"
You bite your lip and look down at the ground.
"Well to put it simply, my dad and step-mom don't exactly get along all too well..."
"Oh..." Mark whispers. "I'm sorry."
You hated having to explain why you were always taking late night walks. But the truth is, it was embarrassing to say that you went on walks to try and escape the constant yelling in your house.
I wish mom were still here...she wouldn't pick arguments with dad everyday...
You don't remember all that much about your mom, since she died from cancer when you were eight, but you do remember that there was never any yelling when mom was there. Your mom and dad always got along and mom always had a smile on her face whenever you saw her. It was so cheerful in the house, that was, until mom was told that she had terminal cancer. When she passed away, there were no more smiles in the house. That cheerful feeling vanished and dad retreated from the world. When he met your step-mom, you thought that everything was going to get better. The exact opposite happened. Recently the fighting has been getting worse and worse and it never stops. You've tried talking to your father about it and how it needs to stop but every time you tried talking to him, he would just shake his head with a smile on his face and tell you that everything was fine.
I wish that she would just leave already...
You shrug your shoulders.
"I've gotten used to it."
"How can someone get used to something like that?" Mark asks.
"It takes a long time but I usually block it out so it's fine." You rub your eyes to try and cover up the tear that started to slowly make its way down your face and you clear your throat. "I really need to get home because I have school tomorrow. Can you help me?"
"Of course!" Mark says while pushing off the doorway and flashing you a smile. "Just tell me what your address is and I can drive you there. I don't want you walking home alone this late at night."
Your eyes widen in surprise at his willingness to help you out. "You don't need to do that! I just need directions. That's all! I don't want to make this inconvenient for you!"
"Don't worry about it. Just let me go grab my keys and I'll get you home safe and sound." Mark tells you while backing up into his apartment.
"Thank you Mark!" you say again.
He turns back to look at you and flashes you that heartwarming smile that you love.
"It's no problem. Would you like to come in and sit down for a bit?"
You nod and walk into his apartment. You look around, notice the spiraling staircase, and point at it.
"That's a really awesome staircase you got there."
"Thanks! Sometimes I hate it though. Especially when I'm half-asleep and trying to walk down the stairs. Let's just say that I've gotten hurt once or twice because of it."
"I never thought that a staircase would defeat the mighty Markiplier," you say while laughing.
He ruffles his hair and chuckles.
"I guess even someone as mighty as me can be defeated by stairs," He points at a couch in the living room. "You can sit down on the couch over there. I'll be right back."
He heads over to the staircase and walks up to the upper floor and enters the first room on his left. You walk over to the couch and sit down.
This is a pretty comfy couch. You think to yourself as you lean back and close your eyes.
I'm just going to close my eyes for a bit...
But before you know it, you're asleep.
