"hi, welcome to queens of treats. what can i get for you?" francesca asked with a cheerful smile on her face. she was in a good mood today because her shift had been going smoothly and although jack had spent almost the whole day in the bakery, he was keeping to himself for once.
"can i get a pain au raisin and your number please?" the brunette girl blushed at the attractive man's request. he was tall with tanned skin, dark hair and stubble covering his face. francesca couldn't deny his good looks.
"not sure you want to be doing that, mate. i'm her boyfriend." jack grealish stood up from his seat at his usual table and walked over to the man, puffing out his chest to make himself more intimidating.
"sorry." he paid for his pastry before hurrying out of the bakery doors.
"give me a bit of loving, sugar." jack pointed to his cheek and francesca pushed past him to wipe down the back tables.
"what the hell is your problem?! he was really attractive!" she yelled at the boy who was following her around the shop, laughing at how annoyed she was getting.
"calm down. if it's meant to be, you'll find your way back to each other." he rolled his eyes at how dramatic she was being. he knew that what he had done was a dick move but it was worth it seeing how irritated she got.
"what's your problem? huh? tell me because ever since we've met, you've been wanting to piss me off!" francesca finally exploded and jack loved it. it amused him.
"i don't have a problem. i think you're the one with a problem." the brunette girl furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. how was she the one with a problem? all she had done was retaliate when he had pissed her off.
"you might want to see a therapist to get that anger sorted out." that was the last straw for francesca.
"fuck you." she stormed away from him before he had a chance to say anything back to her.
francesca made her way to the kitchen, not hearing the bell hanging above the door to tell her that jack had left the shop.
the brunette girl grabbed a rolling pin and a bag of biscuits before whacking the bag with all the force that she could muster.
the banging sounded loudly throughout the kitchen and louis left the stock room to check on his daughter.
"you seem to be hitting that very hard. what's wrong mon étoile?" the older man removed the rolling pin from his daughter's hands carefully, knowing that whatever was bothering her had made her fragile.
without any warning, his daughter erupted into french, the language she turned to when she was angry.
"jack! all he does is wind me up and i know i shouldn't let him bother me but he does and ugh! i just want to punch him, dad." the brunette girl felt the comforting arms of her dad wrapping around her.
despite what many people thought, louis was much better at the emotional side of things. he had a way with words that andrew didn't have and louis somehow always knew what to say to make people feel better.
"do you know what? he probably likes you and doesn't know how else to show you." francesca let out a bitter laugh at her father's words.
"he's twenty three papa, he needs to grow up." louis smiled sympathetically at his daughter. he knew what it was like to be tormented. he wasn't 'camp' like his husband was but being a black, gay man came with it's struggles. he faced racism, homophobia and he was disowned by his parents for who he loved. he promised himself when he adopted francesca that he would always protect her the best that he could but boys and girls were something that she would have to explore by herself.
"that's the thing with boys, take it from me. they don't mature quick enough," he lead his daughter back out to the front of the bakery and sat her down at a table.
"i've had many experiences with boys and mine will be different from yours but they're confusing, rule number one." francesca looked at her dad intently, wanting him to share some of his wisdom with her.
"if he's doing it because he likes you, one day he'll realise that it's wrong and he'll change because ultimately, he'll want what's best for you." he gave his daughter a comforting smile and she returned the gesture. she loved when she got to sit down and have a heart to heart with one or both of her dads.
"so i wait it out?" she asked her dad, being confused as to what she was supposed to do about jack.
"i can't tell you what to do mon étoile. it's your life and you have to do what you think." francesca groaned internally, wishing that her dad would have told her what to do about jack constantly nipping at her like a jack russell dog.
louis could sense his daughter's disappointment so he wrapped her up in a tight hug.
"why did no one invite me to this hug?!" andrew yelled loudly as he found his husband and daughter wrapped in each other's arms.
"come on, dad." francesca opened up her arms and andrew joined the hug, squeezing both his daughter and husband tightly.
francesca knew that whatever happened with jack, whether he continued to torment her or decide to leave her alone, she would always have her family.
a/n: a cute wee chapter. again, not much action happening but the father daughter moment between louis and fran is everything!
