I was quickly woken up from my slumber by my mother, who was shaking me like crazy.

"Wake up, you'll be late for school," my mother said screaming and juddering me.

I looked at the digital alarm clock to my left, it read 6:45 a.m., I had fifteen minutes! I suddenly rushed out of my bed, the white sheets wrinkling as I jumped out. Running to the bathroom, I took out whatever clothing I saw first from my closet and ran for the hall. The bathroom was to the right, in between my mom's and my room. I opened the wood door and rushed in. After seven minutes, I came out, forgetting about breakfast. I picked up my backpack and ran for school.

Truth be told, I really wasn't scared, there wasn't much that frightened me. As I ran, I felt full of energy, not out of breath or panting, I guess I just have a lot of stamina.

My life was boring, out of color, dull. I spent every day of my life going down the same road. As I ran, I saw the leaves of trees rustling in the wind, the lake, which made small waves due to the cold autumn wind. It was like this every day, every minute, nothing ever changed.

Even in school, there was nothing new to learn, it was all repetition. My whole life was like a scratched DVD, replaying the same thing over and over again. Everything was about the right tool against bloodsuckers, and how they was a war between the two races long ago and now they each hate each other but live in peace, and all the other things I have been told since the 1st grade.

After school I would usually stay in the public library and read my book, not making any contact with anyone. There is never anyone that would talk to me in the library after school hours anyway. I would stay reading my books, get transported into another world, one much more exciting than mine. Every time I would finish a story, I would always wish that my own life would be full of adventure, as in the books I would constantly read, that it wouldn't be so dreadful, so ordinary, so . . . boring. I kept wanting something new to happen, something with a sense of adventure. When I looked at the clock in the library as I was signing out, I saw that it was already 7:25 p.m., that meant I had to be home in thirty-five minutes to get home. The vampires would come from the shadows and control the night. Very few people ever walk the streets after sunset, that's the vampires' feeding time.

I quickly rushed out of the door, and started walking in the streets. As I saw the sun set over the horizon, I started to speed up, as I looked up, I saw the lights getting dimmer and dimmer. Before I knew it, I was running, trying to get home as soon as possible, trying to stay away from sight from any vampire that might see me. As fast as the sun was setting, it wasn't so weird that I was running back and forth in the dark.

When I was walking across a corner, I heard a scream from in back of me, fear filled every part of my body as I saw two blood red eyes staring at me. My heart started beating faster and faster as I saw a man walking into the dim street light. His wicked smile focused on me, his predator's eyes fixed straight on mine. His fangs were dripping in blood from the victim that screamed.

As the man's frightful face grew closer to me, I knew that I couldn't just walk, he was so close to me that I felt that I had two choices, face him and die with pride, or run away like a coward. So, I made a run for it!

I made the fastest dash for it ever! Fearing to look back, I just kept going, forgetting all about my house, I kept running, not knowing where to go. I had but one objective in my mind. Escape! I turned at an alley, hoping to be able to trick the vampire into running the wrong way. But all the little hope that I had was diminished when he stopped and stared straight ahead towards me. I moved backwards, into the shadows, hoping he wouldn't see me. Boy, was I wrong. He kept walking closer and closer as I kept moving backwards. I hit a brick wall, having nowhere to run, I fell to my knees. I had only one choice, beg and plead for mercy.

"Please, don't eat me, I beg of you," I said my face facing the floor.

"I like it when they beg, do it again," the vampire said, looking down at me, only a few feet away.

"Please don't eat me, I beg you," I said, my hands trembling as the vampire put on a scary smile, showing his fangs as he heard me implore for my life.

"It's too bad that I'm too hungry to listen," he said as he licked his fangs, the little spots of blood he had were cleaned off and he swallowed them.

I was frozen in place, unable to move, fear entering my body, I couldn't breathe, I felt as if my heart had stopped pumping. The vampire suddenly grabbed my hand, his strength gripping me and pulling me to my feet. He opened his mouth wide, saliva started to show on the inside. I kept struggling out of his grip, but his otherworldly strength wouldn't let me move an inch. He started to pull my long hair back, revealing my neck. The man spent no time in moving towards me. I could feel his breath growing closer and closer, until it happened.

He bit me! My flesh was pierced by his fangs. I could feel him, sucking all the blood in me, I felt him slurping my life away! Coldness spread through all of my body, as if snow had entered my veins. For the first time I could remember, I felt true fear, my mind started to swirl, all of my body began to malfunction. My head went light, my entire body ran cold, ran dry, ran lifeless. My vision became a blur, the last thing I remember was seeing the man's face through the side of my eye.

I felt as if my life was going to end, that this would be the way that I left, that I would die before I ever truly lived. Just as I was getting ready to die my death, something happened, something I couldn't explain, something that would save my life.
