"What happens now?"
"I don't know."
"Where did the voice come from?"
"It sounded strained."
They were saying things, asking things, out of fear, out of desperation to know what was happening to them. And around them.
They began to move, once again, a slow tedious pace but this time at a slope. It was as if they were being pulled towards something. Or someone. It was like a weak magnet trying to pull a huge paper clip across a road. It would reach the other side eventually, but until then the cars would become obstacles and it would be a long, treacherous journey.
Eventually they saw land. A floating island. A large floating island. Floating in the air, surrounded by nothing but darkness. They couldn't see it all as its land stretched as far as the eye could see. The mountains towards the back of what they could see if the land wasn't helping them figure out the vast scale of this land.
As they came closer they could see the land was barren. With destroyed buildings and pathways. There was no animals walking in pens communicating in 'animal language' to each other. There was no flowers in flower beds, no vines on the side of houses, no bushes and the little grass there was, was deep purple and grew in small bunches with patches of dirt everywhere the grass had failed to grow. It looked like this area had once been full with people until some natural disaster, such as a tsunami or an earthquake, had struck the land, all the houses were rubble. You couldn't live in these conditions. There was no sign of life. And looked like there hasn't been for a long time.
"What is that?"Jordan asked, looking down at the edge of the island.
"I don't see anything," said Tom.
"Me either," Tucker contributed, "do you see anything Sonja?"
"Nope."
"That proves it then, you're insane."
"Sparkly pants has went insane," Tom giggled, "we are finally rubbing off on you!"
"No," Jordan protested, "I just can see better than you lot because I've got these," He strikes a sassy pose, hand on hip, the other in the air, duck face pulled, "SWAGALICIOUS GLASSES!"
The other three began to laugh, and laugh, and laugh.
"Good one Jordan," was Sonja's answer.
"That was a good joke, we all now your glasses do fuck all," was what Tucker replied with.
Toms reaction was the best of all.
"YOU ABSOLUTE WANKER. MATE, YOU MUST BE DRUNK. HAVE YOU BEEN AT THE CRACK COWCAINE AGAIN?"
"Guys, this is bullying," Said Jordan, "I demand a TRIALLLLL."
"No Jordan," Tom said," Fuck you."
"Wow, so Darude."
"WHY YOU GOTTA BE DARUUUUUDE."
"I see it!" Screamed Sonja.
"Ow my ears!" Tucker yelled back.
"Sorry not sorry."
"Relationship GOAAAALS."
"We're going off topic guys." Jordan was squinting to see what the minuscule movement was.
"Wait, Jordan, is that what you were talking about?" Tucker pointed at the movement.
"What? Oh! Yeah it was. Tom do you see it?"
"I CANT SEE SHIT."
"Well, just hold on tight until we get there."
The journey was progressing, slowly but surely.
"Wait, correct me if I'm wrong," Jordan started, squinting again,"but that 'movement' looks like it was the woman Sonja heard earlier."
"Yeah, it does," agreed Sonja.
"You guys are going insane, I can't see anything." Tom was still protesting despite usually being the one that gets proved wrong in the end.
"Tom you're not helping the situation."
As the distance between them and the land shrank, they began to make out more of the woman. She had thin arms out in front of her, like she was guiding them. Her pale, wrinkled face looked drained and her thin grey hair hung down just past her shoulders. Her body was draped in purple robes that showed how skinny she truly was. She wore a red sash round her waist and up over her left shoulder. Gold bangles on her wrists and a variation of golden rings on her fingers, a golden band around here head. She walked bare foot.
They reached the land and hovered overhead. They dropped the three feet separating them from the ground. As soon as their feet touched the dirt, the woman's, whom appeared to be holding them up, legs collapsed and she slumped to the ground into a weak pile of skin and bones.
