Alice Williams was a lot of things―jovial, warm-hearted, understanding, and usually tolerant. But, there was only one instance where she was unforgiving.
It was when someone very close to her forgot her birthday.
And today was that day and the person being her best friend; Violetta.
Even since they had become friends, Violetta was always the first one who wished her on birthday either by showing up at her doorstep right when the clock struck twelve, with a cake or celebrating her birthday in college.
Today, however, neither had happened.
And the worst thing was that she hadn't even bothered to wish her on call when she had rung her up to know if everything was fine with her since she had even skipped college today.
'Everything is fine, I am kinda busy today, I'll talk to you later.' She had replied in a flat tone, hanging up the call.
Alice was astonished at her uncharacteristic display of ignorance and had been in a sulk since morning.
It wasn't like Violetta was her only friend. She had many other friends in and outside college and they had surprised her with a little birthday party when she had stepped in the college but the hazel-eyed girl, her best friend was missing.
Her birthday was incomplete without Violetta's wish―the crumbly cookies she baked every year for her; her totally random gifts.
She dragged her brooding self in the hallway of her college after she was done with her class, ignoring the buzzing of students passing by.
Well, what a fabulous day.
Not.
Her cherry tinted lips pursed into a sad pout as she stared at the black screen of her phone.
How could Violetta just disregard her like that? Or maybe something was going on with her. What if her best friend was in trouble? She should give her the benefit of doubt, she thought.
She decided to skip the remaining classes and go home since she wasn't in such a good mood but as she was making her way to the exit, her phone buzzed in her hand.
Alice's face lit up when she saw the caller's name on the screen.
"Violet! I was just thinking about you," she almost exclaimed.
"Alice, it's an emergency. I'm texting you an address. You have to come here, quickly," came from the other side making Alice's mouth drop.
Before she could ask her what was wrong, she cut the call.
Again, very uncharacteristic.
Something was definitely wrong with her friend today.
Her phone buzzed again and this time, it was a messages from her.
She read the address and without having any second thoughts, she turned on her heel and walked out of the college.
She had to find out the cause of her best friend's strange behavior.

Alice stood in front of a familiar cafe she had been to once. Located near a lake, it had an elegant indoor dine-in and also a refreshing outdoor seating arrangement. A beautiful garden in the center was a heaven of nature. Alice navigated through the indoor dining area, making her way out to the garden where Violetta had told her to come.
She entered the garden―her sapphire orbs wandering around the oasis of colors with shaded areas on the side―until she spotted the brunette girl standing near a small fountain with a huge smile plastered on her face.
