In the Shadows:

   “These__ are the demonic reapers that we’re up against…”  he said looking almost embarrassed as if he had something to do with it.  It was Louis who answered, “so you give us these weapons and then expect us to be able to fight these things?  What the Hell do you expect of us?” he asked in the tough tone he uses to hide his fear.  

“I wish you guys weren’t involved in this; but you are, even if I get you home, you’ve already seen the the things that are in the shadows.  There are more of them now that Sammel and Lilith are building up their army.  And, if we loose this war it will effect the entire world.  Could you guys really just sit back and watch?” Louis’s arms tightened around my shoulders, “…so that’s it? You say you’re going to ‘get us out safe’, when what you really want is more solders for  your  army!  So you’re gonna just recruit us?!” I could hear the sass in his voice and felt his arms tighten again, “I’m sorry, but usually when you recruit people, you should ASK them first!” here it comes, I though.  Cadan looked at the ground, “sorry” was all he said.  Louis lost it “SORRY?! That’s it?!  You barely even trained us! Sure Liam’s shot an arrow or two and Zayns got some thing for guns and we all work out, but we’re not your fucking solders!” his arms tightened yet again, “L-Louis…” I said tapping his arm, “can’t brea-”.

“You know if you actually asked us to help you in the first place we might have helped a bit! but now that you lied in saying you’d ‘get us out safely’ I don’t know that I can trust you!”

“Louis… can’t breathe…” I tried again, pulling on his arms.  He heard me this time and loosened his arms, “sorry Harry” he said in a softer voice.  

“What if he’s right Louis?” Holly said.  Louis looked at her like she'd hit him, “your taking his side?” he squeaked.  Holly moved closer “of course not, I’m always on your side, but…”.  

“If he is right,” Liam continued for me, “and this stuff were to just come at us again… what if it happened during a performance or something, mate? I don’t like the idea of putting our fans in danger.”

I looked at the ground, “so your saying we should do this for our fans?”

“And the rest of the world” said Liam.  

“We’d be like heroes, man!” Niall said, “and even though he didn’t ask us ’n’ all, I think he’s still on our side.”  

Then, Zayn put it in perspective for me, “we’re all scared Lou, but I don’t know how much of a choice we have.  Deal with these things now while we have Cadan or later on our own.” He always knows exactly what to say.  They were right. I was just scared; but not for me, “okay…” I said looking at Cadan, “we’ll help you, but can you please get Holly home safe at least?” I asked.  

“Louis I couldn’t…!”  She said shaking her head.  I knew she’d be like this, “Holly please? I don’t want you getting hurt?” I pleaded.  

“And I don’t want you getting hurt” she said crossing her arms, “I’m not leaving you.”  
I looked in her eyes and knew there was no way she could just leave.  I know she would risk her own life for mine, and that’s what scares me the most, but I knew I would do the same for her, “fine, but please be careful babe” I said as I reached over to push a stray curl from her face.  I then looked at Cadan and nodded at him to lead.  He started towards the door again.

“Wait guys” Harry said.  He paused and looked at the ground and I saw Cadan rolled his eyes as if to say ‘now what?’.

“We don’t know what could happen out there” Harry said looking up and turned to the boys in turn and glanced back and up at me, “we should do a 1D huddle, I don’t want it to be the last one… but what if it is?” his voice cracked at that last part.  

“Well I’m in” said Liam.  

“Me too!” said Niall.  

“Me three!” said Zayn.  

“Set me down Haz, me four” I said.  Harry helped me onto my feet and positioned himself next to me with his arm around my waist, he waved for rest of the guys with a wide grin, “come on in guys, me five!”

Liam came and put his arm around Harry, Niall put his arm around Liam, and Zayn connected the circle between me and Niall.  

“Hi guys!” said Harry, cheeky as always, “lets give it our best, like we would on stage, yeah?”

“Yeah”, said Liam “we’ll watch each others backs. And just… be carful.  Don’t miss any que’s, right?”.

“If we get through this we should thank our trainers for keep’n us in shape,” Niall said “not that… we expected to have to fight for our lives or anything and…” tears started to spill down his cheeks, “oh God, don’ let this be our last huddle” he said between sobs and hid his face on Liams shoulder.  

“Niall…” Liam chocked as he let his own tears fall.  

“We won’t let it be. We can do this” Harry said.  He and Zayn teared up as well,  And I just couldn’t hold ‘it back any longer, I did something that I hadn’t done in awhile, Holly, Harry, and my sisters being the few people who have seen me do this… I cried.  Liam was first to notice, “L-Louis… You’re… You’re crying!”

I sniffled before answering, “of course I am you twat! I hate this! I could lose you guys out there!”

Niall chuckled at me through sobs, “crazy Mofo, gettin’ sassy while were all ballin’ our eyes out” he said squeezing my arm behind Zayn.  I smiled and squeezed back, “what can i say, I’m the sass master.  It’s kinda my job.” The rest of the boys laughed through their tears.

“Alright guys, pull it together” said Harry with a wide cheerful grin “off to work we go and were not gonna be much help like this.”

I watched the boys as they dried up their tears.

“Come on lads cuddle time!” said Louis quite loudly.

“Yeah!” Harry shouted just as loudly, and they bear hugged each other.  I hoped to God, however, that it wasn’t their last.  They let go of each other except for Harry still supporting Louis.  I turned to follow Cadan, “Holly wait…” said Louis, he turned to say something to Harry who hesitated before slowly letting go of Louis, Louis limped over to me and stopped, gazing at me with that bright smile I fell in love with.  He brought his hand up to cup my cheek, the other hand rested on my waist as he pulled me closer and pressed his lips to mine in a passionate kiss.  I smiled into the kiss and threw my arms around his neck and stood on my toes a little to deepen the kiss as he opened his lips slightly against mine in a way that always makes me melt.  We pulled away a little bit but our arms were sill around each other.  I took in his blue-green eyes and moved my right hand to run my fingers through his messy hair, “I love you so much, Louis” I whispered.  He was still smiling as he said, “I love you too, babe” I leaned up to kiss him again, shorter but just as passionate as the last. We pulled away again and this time Louis took my hand in his and turned to the boys who had stupid grins on their faces like they’d been watching a chick-flick.

“You guys ready? Yea?” Louis asked them.

Niall cleared his throat “Yeah buddy” he said, nodding.

“Batman’s ready!” said Liam looking proud of himself.

“Guess I’m ready” said Zayn.

“Come on fellas!!” said Harry clapping his hands together.  Liam mock frowned at him, “quiet down Harold, you’ll wake the dead.”  Harry frowned and looked around, “Sorry wasn’t thinking” he said.  

Louis turned to Cadan and nodded, “we’re ready.”

“Fortunately you can walk now” Cadan pointed out.

Louis gave him a quick smirk, “guess so, I’ll probably need my legs out there” he said motioning towards the door.
