I've been staring at the tiny paper plane for a real long time. I see how minutely it's carved. I finally add her number to my phone. I've never really been this nervous to talk to a girl before. I don't know there's just something about her. I get tingles down my spine whenever I read her name - Maya. It's echoes through my heart, and shivers it's way up my spine to my brain, where I register it's uniqueness. I open Messages, and send her a 'Heyy'.
I wait for her response while I'm in the drawing room, stuffing cheese popcorn down my throat, and watching Adam play Fortnite for the millionth time. I hear the phone chirp, and immediately get up, take with me the tub of popcorn, and the phone and go to my loft.
I put the tub of popcorn aside, and unlock my phone. I see the notification, and smile as I read a sneak-peak of her message. I click on the notification bubble, which directs me to her text. "Heyo Neighbor Boy!". I'm still smiling as I text her back "So... How come I've never seen you at school?" I quickly delete that text and keep re -writing for quite sometime until I feel what I'm sending is appropriate for the first conversation.I chat with her for about an hour, and honestly I wasn't at all wrong for judging her to be a goody-two-shoes at first. After the texting became mutually less awkward, I asked her politely why she had earlier denied meeting me. I saw the three dots moving in the chat bubble, but it never stopped. It was either a long story, or irrelevant topic, because she never answered it. I think of the incident that happened years ago--her fainting and screaming on the road, being carried away by the ambulance-- she must have some medical condition. That explains being ghosted for about 6 years. She isn't around school too. As far as I know, because I personally only new the plastics of our school, who played the boys. I stay there, trapped in the 'seenzone'. Waiting for another text. Specifically from her. Specifically answering to why she's been such a mystery.
