ONE DAY AGO

"Get up."

Trevor groaned as he opened his eyes to find Christian standing over him, his hands on his hips. He only got a few hours of sleep and sleeping on his back on the hard floor with only a thin sleeping bag didn't make slumber come easy.

Trevor let his eyes close again as he said, "And good morning to you, too."

"I need help getting some breakfast. Now get up."

Trevor sat up and stretched. "What time is it?"

"A few minutes after sunrise. We need to go ahead and get some food to cook."

Trevor frowned as he stood up. "Why didn't anyone wake me up for watch?"

"Tara and Tori wanted to take over the other watch periods we had last night. Besides, you were zonked. Snored so loud you almost woke the dead."

Trevor glared at him with bleary eyes. "I don't snore."

"Well you did last night. Now get your ass out here."

Christian left the room before Trevor could give him a cutting remark.

Skylar was coming in with a huge pail of water as Trevor and Christian walked into the living room. "I got water."

"Great," Christian said, "now we need breakfast."

Christian walked over to the cabinet under the sink and pulled out two fishing rods. Trevor raised an eyebrow as Christian tried to hand him one of the rods. "Dude, do you realize we can just shift into something and catch the fish ourselves?"

"He's right," Skylar said as she placed the water by the fireplace. "I think it'd be easier than fishing with those rods. Besides, there's no humans around here, either."

Christian sighed and put the fishing rods back in the cabinet. "Alright."

The boys filed out the front door and walked over to stand by the lake. They checked their surroundings to double check there were no humans around then both of them shifted. They both shifted into huge grizzly bears, with Christian having a lighter shade of brown fur and Trevor having a darker shade. Soon, they had fish either clamped in their jaws. They caught eight fish before they shifted back into human form and took the fish inside.

"I told you this way would be easier," Trevor couldn't resist pointing out as they made their way inside, carrying the fish. By now the sun had completely risen and was shining bright in the sky.

"Okay, okay. You got me there," Christian conceded. "Though I am a pretty good fisherman. Dad taught me when we came here." A dark look came over his expression as soon as he said the last sentence.

Trevor was silent, not knowing how to respond.

Skylar was pouring the water she brought in earlier in some glasses as they were coming in, Tara and Tori nowhere in sight.

"What're you doing?" Christian asked.

"Pouring everyone a glass of water," Skylar answered, not looking up from her task. "And yes, they're from the cabinets and have been here for a while. And yes, I cleaned them out before pouring."
