"Esmeralda, let your petals make their way out!" Arndolfr belted as he threw a Pokéball up in the air and a small green Pokémon Rodowena hasn't seen before emerged and let out a few purrs.

Rodowena must have been staring at it for quite some time because she then heard Arndolfr clear his throat and say, "Doie, now would be the perfect time to take out your Pokédex."

"Y-yes, I know that, don't tell me what to do," Rodowena retaliated, taking out her Pokédex and pointing it to the green Pokémon, which was then revealed to be a Budew. "And it looks like Budews are also not native here in Johto. Mind telling me where you got that little critter?"

"Esmeralda was given to me as an egg by a guy named Anthony Chang after I lost a battle with him yesterday morning," Arndolfr answered casually, which came as a surprise to Rodowena.

"And you're just casually telling me that you just lost a battle to some Trainer you randomly met?" Rodowena questioned Arndolfr.

"For your information, Anthony Chang is not just 'some Trainer,' he's a -"

"Pfft! As if I'm interested with that bloke in the first place," Rodowena scoffed. "You still haven't answered my question, Arndolfr."

"Sometimes, we win, and sometimes, we lose," Arndolfr grunted, his patience wearing thinner by the minute. "It's as simple as that. The only reason why I'm still answering you in a civil kind of way is that you're actually the first person to pronounce my name on the first try."

"Ha! What can I say? I'm really that good," Rodowena chirped as she took Lune's Pokéball, threw it up in the air, and belted, "You are my knight, Lune!"

The Oshawott that is a little larger than the usual emerged from its Pokéball and landed on the grass with an ever-slight thud.

"And of course, I also know that I'll have to take my Pokémon out of their Pokéballs so they can battle other Pokémon and get stronger that way," Rodowena giggled, giving Lune a pat on the head. "Am I right, Arndolfr?"

"Excellent, Doie," Arndolfr commented. "Now why don't you go put what you just said in practice?"

"Yes, yes, I know, I said don't tell me what -"

"Ohoho, this time, I'm not telling you what to do," Arndolfr cut across her. "I'm daring you to do that."

"Is that a threat?" Rodowena hissed.

"It's a dare," Arndolfr simply responded. "Perfect timing, too. There's a Sentret coming towards us."

And sure enough, though barely visible through the tall grass, the figure of a Sentret can be seen steadily coming towards them. It only became apparent that it wasn't an ordinary Sentret when it finally emerged from the thick grass.

"Hey, how come that Sentret gives out sparkles?" Rodowena questioned Arndolfr. "Is that really supposed to happen? And why doesn't Lune have them if it is supposed to happen?"

"I can't believe we're going to encounter a shiny Pokémon this early, but for now, I want you to try to catch it," Arndolfr instructed. "I'll explain afterwards."

Rodowena wanted to question Arndolfr's sudden order, but deciding otherwise, she let Lune jump from her feet and ordered, "Lune, use Tackle on that Sentret! Weaken it, but don't make it faint!"

Lune rushed towards the Sentret and landed a restrained Tackle attack that dealt a lot of damage, nevertheless. What was strange is that instead of fighting back, the Sentret only changed its direction and kept running from them.

"Oh no you don't!" Arndolfr barked as he threw a Pokéball towards the Sentret. The Pokéball made its mark on the Sentret's back and the Sentret was sucked into the Pokéball before it shook once, twice, thrice, but then burst open with a flash of yellow. As a result, the Sentret ran away from them into the tall grass, never to be seen again.
