Millions of thoughts bustled through my mind, warring for dominance over one another. The reasonable part of me told me that I was probably jumping to an enormous conclusion based on my gut feeling. However, the obsessive freak in my brain just knew it. He just knew.

Just as I practically leapt from my seat and was halfway there to the door, the Chemistry teacher barged in, making me under my breath.

"Ahem..." I attempted faking a cough and silently hoped that she was as naïve as she looked. "May I go and fetch m-my inhaler, ma'am?"

She scanned my face, a frown crawling onto her skinny features.

"Go on, child, get it! Quick!" she replied, and I knew it was my cue to leave. I slightly jogged towards the door, avoiding bumping into desks along the way. Some students passed me worried glances, and I caught Kate's friends narrowing their eyes at me in suspicion just as I was about to slip out of the door.

I winked at them mischievously, running into the hall without any further hesitation.

Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I dialed Marc's number, tapping my feet against the floor in anticipation. He answered the call after two rings.

"Hey, 'sup?" he mumbled, drowsiness dripping off his tongue.

"Sorry to disturb your beauty sleep, but I need you to check the cameras deployed in every classroom in the university," I helplessly ordered him, beginning to lengthen my strides in the vacant hallways and scan the empty classrooms for any signs of commotion.

A groan emerged from the speaker, after which sounded the clicking of keys on his side. A steely silenve ensued, during which my mind rushed with possibilities of Kate's current situation.

"Classroom B29," he breathed after the pause. It didn't take me a second to hang him up, before I began rushing through the halls, scanning all the metal slabs on each of the classroom doors, searching for the one which had B29 stamped onto it.

I had almost given way to the fatigue in my calves, my back now drenched sweat, only to hear a muffled scream. The hair on my neck stood up high. I rushed towards the direction of the scream, pangs of panic hitting me ceaselessly.

Hushed whispers. I slowed down, beginning to follow the source of the sound.

There it was: Classroom B29.

Even though its door was shut, I doubted it was locked. Pressing my ear onto the door, I tried my best to hear the conversations – hopefully nothing more than that – on the other side.

I couldn't hold back any longer.

Smashing the door open, I entered a dimly lit classroom, the only light source being the muted sunlight pouring through the closed blinds. No desks were present in the classroom, making it the perfect spot for a scuffle.

Not surprisingly, in the far corner of the room, the guy who had threatened me at the canteen was cornering Kate. One of his hairy hands covered her mouth harshly while the other one pinned her hands forcefully to the wall behind them.

The alarming look of terror in her widened eyes was far worse than the one she had sported back when she had slapped me.

The two of them swerved their heads towards me and the guy's eyes grew dimmer with hatred, as well as, perhaps, jealousy.
