Once upon a time, a duke named Theseus lived in Athens, ready to marry his true love.
Her name was Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, yet gentle as a dove.
They were preparing for their wedding day,
Only four short days away.
They were as excited as could be,
And could hardly wait, for then they would be happy.
But Theseus had some trouble.
A man named Egeus, his daughter’s husband choices were double.
Egeus wanted his daughter to marry Demetrius, whom his daughter thought of as a bore.
For Hermia, the daughter, actually loved Lysander more.
Theseus gave Hermia an option:
Follow her father’s wishes, die, or endure the life of a nun!
Hermia was very upset,
But she did not want to give in to her father’s commands just yet.
So Hermia and Lysander decided to run away,
But not before they told their friend Helena their plan to disobey.
Helena loved Demetrius and of Hermia felt jealous,
She envied his love for Hermia and immediately grew zealous.
Helena planned to tell Demetrius of the lovers’ plan to elope,
Then he will follow them into the woods and decide he loves me! I hope…
It will make him regain his love for me,
And he will realize he does not love her! He’ll see.
