Popping my back my eyes adjusted almost immediately to the dark.
Mom's eyes glared at me from the dark, her foot angrily tapping the floor.
"Get your butt down here right now ryder I swear-" shit- what'd I do now?? Shifting my weight I dropped to the floor, rolling to ease the landing. Jumping up I came face to face with mom.
"Tony wanted you in his lab an hour ago!" She hissed, flicking my head. Ow. Rubbing the spot I headed out, assuming Ash was in her tattoo form on my back shoulder. It was just a patch of scales but it was her marking. Heading through the halls I made it to the lab, patting Choco on the head as I passed.
"Who's the bird?" I looked up from the blueprints in confusion, looking behind me.
To my surprise, Ash wasn't there. Instead a barn owl stood on the chair. Its head tilting to the side as it clacked its beak.
"Um-"
"You forgot you turn 18 today didn't you-"
"Yeah..." I walked to the bird and held out my arm almost on instinct. It cooed and hopped on, quickly settling down. I noticed a ring on the leg and looked it over.
"Aries. Hm. Cute name." Smiling I scratched the owl's chin, pride filling my chest as it closed its eyes and leaned into my hand.
"Well, your soulmate is in for a surprise." Oh shit-
"Ha. I'm fucked nine ways to sunday."
Gently lifting the owl to my shoulder I left the lab, surprised to find the rest of the family in the living room, welcoming with cheers of happy birthday and a large cake. Warmth filled my lungs as I smiled and headed over, picking Pepper up in a hug.
"Wonder how quick it'll be till Ash is on the news again!" Bruce laughed, earning a gentle smack from uncle Steve. I snorted but nodded, blowing out the candles. Music filled the room and the celebration commenced, energy buzzing in the air.
Tho, Aries didnt seem to leave. At all. Which was a bit surprising considering the amount of stimuli. It had o have given it a headache? Hm.
