A Night on The Town

"Come on big bro, sun is up we gotta get a move on." I grab my bag and my machete from the ground and start rolling up my sleeping bag. "How'd you sleep."
"I slept well, I was worried about you though because you didn't get much sleep."
"Don't worry about me, I'm fine I promise."
"Whatever you say big bro." Julia leads the way off the roof, as we walk through the town we are shocked to see that the streets are clear of those things. "Hey Julia, see that store over there, we may be able to grab more supplies from there, we are running low on food."
"Good idea, you take point." I slowly walk towards the door and peak into the window. I see a few zombies walking around in there. Julia slowly opens the door and knocks on it with her crowbar. One by one as the zombies pop out she kills them with her crowbar. We enter the store with our flashlight, the store is mostly in shambles and looted to all hell. Shelves knocked over, carts scrambled everywhere. I flip over one of the carts and start checking out a lot of items on the ground. Most of the cans are spoiled and the chips spilled onto the floor. "Big bro come here." I walk over to Julia who is standing in front of a door. "It's locked but inside is water and some food completely untouched."
"This must be the storage room."
"Julia go see if any of those bodies have a key, I'll try and break through the door."
After about 20 seconds I break through the door and am immediately tackled to the ground by a zombie. It's growling in my face and slashing at me, I try and reach for my machete with one hand while my other hand keeps him up. I can't reach the machete, I see my life flash before my eyes when all of a sudden Julia pulls the zombies off of me and kills it with her crowbar.
"Are you ok big bro?"
"Yeah let's just gather these supplies in this cart and get out of this store." We load up and leave, I'm still a little shaken up by the attack earlier, if Julia wasn't there I don't know if I would have made it. As we approach the outskirts of town I see something weird out of the corner of my eye. A big gated mansion, but inside certain little lighted up sections of the house are going dark.
"Julia wait stop, did you see that." I point towards the mansion now purely dark. "No what was it."
"I think there is something or someone in that house."
"Hey guys" me and Julia dashed our heads in the opposite direction to see a scrawny man with longer hair approaching us. I raise my machete up, "who the hell are you and why are you here."
"Dude relax, my name is Derrick and that house you were just looking at is my home."
"How many people are you with Derrick and why are you out here so late." I think he can sense the hostility in my voice, Julia hasn't said anything, she's probably still scarred after what happened the last time we were around people.
"We have 3 people in that house besides me, it's secure and it's right outside the town, perfect for managing it, you guys look for a place to spend the night we could allow you in." I'm very wary of this offer, we had a bad experienc before but we are desparate, she won't live much longer if we are just traveling all the time.
"Can I have a moment to discuss this with my sister please?"
"Why sure go right ahead."
"Julia I know how hard it is to trust people after what happened before but maybe we can give this a shot, just for one night and then we can move on if you don't feel comfortable."
"I don't know Dylan I just- I just need time to think."
"Guys we don't have all night, if you don't feel comfortable then I'll just be on my way." We were about to let him walk away when Julia spoke up. "Please Derrick, we want to stay for the night, we are sick of sleeping on cold hard rooftops, if you have the space then please let us stay at least for the night." As we approach the mansion the thoughts of last time we were with people race through my mind.
