My heartbeat was in my ears. My blood churned with resentment, disappointment, and embarrassment. The room was covered in large roaring flames, and they lapped at the piles of gold and other trinkets that Sam, Nathan, and I found together. The treasure was gone, the one we worked so hard to find. Gone.

I barely remember how I got to this point in time.

I remember clearly just twenty minutes ago Sam ordering Nathan to go after Nadine because she had tried to kill us numerous times. That's when the door closed behind Sam and I, trapping us in the same room as Rafe. The boat caught on fire before we knew it, and Rafe still complained he wouldn't be able to have Avery's treasure.

Sam got trapped underneath a post because the fire is eating everything in its path. I crawled over to him choking on tears because I dreaded I was about to lose the man I have loved for years. He hasn't known it, but and I need to tell him.. My hands were all over his face shakily, trying to slap him conscious and move his head. Then Rafe pointed a long sword at my back, as flames threatened to kill all of us and trapping us in this wretched pirates boat.

I rested my ear on Samuel's chest to see if I could hear his heart. Very faintly I heard the slow thumping of his heartbeat. I let out a breath of relief.

"Get up and fight me!" Rafe declared, jabbing a sharp sword pointed directly at my back.

My ears rang, and I looked between the other sword and Sam who laid unconscious underneath the post.

I darted for the weapon, grabbing it from the melting pile of gold. I aimed it at him, walking back to Sam to defend him.

"Rafe, why don't you just put the sword down, and we can talk this out? I need to help Sam, and this boat is on fire for God's sake," I tried to reason with him, looking around at the boat falling apart around us.

The fire devoured the wood, threatening to get close and burn all of us. He just kept staring at me intently, his rapier raised like he wanted to kill me. His hair was messy, he had a couple of strands falling in front of his face. Quite unlike Rafe. He is usually a clean, well-dressed man. But the person I saw standing before me was a vengeful, unorderly rat.

Rafe looked angry, and the red light coming from the flames that illuminated his face didn't help either. The male kept the sword on me, glaring at me and occasionally to Samuel. "Why do you keep guarding him? Why did you join them in the first place? You could've been on my team. We would've been strong, but no!" Rafe took a swing at me and I yelped, dodging out of the way to my right. I stayed near Sam hoping he wouldn't swing at him.

I didn't want to swing my sword at him, I had sort of been friends with Rafe since Nathan and Sam had been before they put themselves in jail with him.

I breathed heavily, beginning to get heated and sweat from the fire. "Why? Because you are a selfish prick! You want the treasure all for yourself so you can prove to the world you do things by yourself and you don't need your rich parents. But guess what, if it wasn't for Nathan, Sam, and I figured any of this out for you!" My rage boiled over, my heartbeat pounding steadily in my chest and the fire caught more things in the room.

I screamed suddenly due to how furious I was, lashing out at the man who had taken everything from them, my best friends, Nathan's wife Elena, and Sully. Soon the boat would sink with everything in it. I swung my sword out at him recklessly, hatred over-taking my body and it was the only emotion filling me. Tears glistened my face. I was crying with anger not sadness, I wanted to kill him. "You are just a stupid bastard who can't do anything for himself!" I continued to cry, trying to swing at him but he kept stepping away. Rafe's sneer grew broadly, he relished in the fact I was fighting him back.
