Damion's pov

I awoke with a crash as my mum swung my door open. The startled yelp that I let out was muffled when my mum reached over and clamped a hand over my mouth. Glancing towards her, I noticed the situation we were in.
"Grab your stuff quickly, Damion!" She whispered as she stood in front of the door holding the handle to make sure he couldn't get in.

He is to put it kindly an alcoholic, junkie, who lives off of nicotine and heroine. The entire house was damaged just as much as our lives were and it doesn't help that he is a high ranked police officer. Talk about the corrupt system.
My mum has tried to get away from him multiple times, like saying she wants a divorce. Obviously, my dad wasn't too keen on the idea and showed her the consequences of her actions. We have tried everything to get away but every time to no avail. It was a threat, or my mum's guilt, or a lie or a kind action that always led us back there.
I stood up quickly, wincing at how loud my dad was banging on the door. The hinges shook and caved beneath the force and I could see my mum losing the will to try at this point.

I grabbed my school clothes and shoved them in my bag, along with things like, my hairbrush, toothbrush and other necessities. A laptop and spare money were already stashed in there in case of an emergency

"Move quickly!" I whispered pointing to my window as I grabbed my mum's hands and pulled her along behind me. My bedroom was on the ground floor, so I quickly jumped out, helping my mum clamber out as well. I glanced behind me to see my dad screaming something at my mum as he grabbed her hair to pull her back inside. My mum gasped as she got pulled back, but then she swung round and grabbed her hair, pulling it from his grasp. We continued to run towards my cousin's house in our pyjamas so we could stay there for the day.
I discreetly turned around to see if my dad was still following us. Luckily, he wasn't. To be honest, it was probably because he was too drugged to function, let alone run down a wet street to catch two people who were much more athletic than himself.

I turn to look at my mother, only to see her breaking down and apologising. Bruises evident on her clear skin and mascara trickling down her cheeks from her teary eyes. Without a second thought, I gently pulled her into a hug, rubbing gently on her freezing cold skin to transfer some heat.

"I know. You couldn't have known it would turn out like this. So please stop apologising." I pleaded, beginning to tear up myself.

"I'm so stupid. I'm sorry Damion. I can't protect you like I always promised." She sobbed into my shoulder, holding onto me as if I would vanish any second now.
After she had lost the adrenaline, she had fallen asleep like she usually did. I gently lifted her into my arms, trekking towards Logans house despite being cold.
We reached the door to his house, knocking loudly and quickly onto his door before I stepped back to avoid any awkward closeness. The door opened to a ninety-degree angle and a boy with straight, blueish black hair stood in the doorway. His eyes flickered down to his watch and
"Hey Specs. think you can let us in?" I asked, signalling to my mum. Logan's eyes flashed with worry for a split second. In that second, I could see his real emotions before he shuts them out completely and gives us a blank robot-like stare.

"Of course, Damion. Please, step inside," he said as he stood aside allowing us to come through his door. "My parents are out of the house at the moment. They are on another business trip." Logan informed as he walked to the kitchen to grab tea for my mum. I sat her down on the couch, shaking her gently to wake her up and told her where we were just as Logan got back into the room.

Logan handed my mum the tea and began to lightly rub her back as she calmed down. Logan was rather good at reading human emotions, just not showing them.
"You can get changed upstairs if you would like, Damion." Logan suggested.

"Yeah, okay, sounds like a plan." I answered and made my way upstairs.
The room was a pale shade of cream with a white bed and some fairy lights. I absolutely love this room; it was almost like my childhood room since I comes over so often. My cousin - Logan, was much like a younger, more sophisticated, brother to me.
I quickly got changed into a black nirvana t-shirt, black ripped skinny jeans and a yellow and black flannel which I tied around my waist. I brushed my black and yellow hair over my left eye and shoved on a yellow beanie which said 'liar' on it in capitals. The beanie seemed very fitting for me, especially since I was told to be a pathological liar by my dad when he accuses me of something that I haven't even done.

I ran down the stairs and towards my cousin.
"Hey, Nerd. Can you bring your emotions back for a second?"
"I don't see why not." Logan sighed.

He looked up at me with a sigh. "It feels strangely good to feel anger..." Logan smirked. "Sorry about your dad, he's an ass" Logan said.

I laughed at his response and soon he laughed along with me. "Oh, before we forget!" Logan said, as he walked over to my mum who was drinking her tea and smiling at us. "Hey Mel, come get some sleep." he said to my mum, who nodded and excepted his hand with a wobbly smile.
Logan led her into the guest bedroom and gently sat her down on the bed, she lay backwards, letting her head hit the pillow and I smiled before covering her with the covers.
"Get some rest. Yeah?" Logan smiled, waving at my mum before walking out of the room.

Logan and I walked along to school, ignoring all of the annoying kids yelling about my face which was hidden behind my hair.
Logan had gone back to being a robot before we left the house. I don't understand why Logan was so put off by anyone seeing his emotions. He is a genius though, he discovered a way to ease away emotions to help him with studying, I guess he liked it more without them and decides to go without them in day to day life.

We walked up to the gates and spotted a person wearing red, white, and gold, along with another person who looked exactly like him. The other person wore green, black and silver, he looked kind of sad. The two started laughing as the one in green gave a malicious grin and began sprinting through the crowds.

Logan looked as surprised as me, he had a small amount of happiness in his eyes before they dulled out.

The one in red smiled gently and sighed watching the green one run through the crowds. They began striding through the gates and flashing a charming smile at everyone before getting through the crowd and walking to the front door.

"Are they new?" I asked Logan.

" I have never seen either of them before, so I would assume yes." Logan responded with a small smile.

"Yeah, like you know everyone in sophomore year, you Junior." I replied with a laugh.

Logan shrugged before claiming that they stuck out too much for us to miss them, I hummed in agreement.

I shrugged and began walking to my first period class, waving bye to Logan as he walked in the opposite direction.
