I walked towards the band hall without looking at anyone. Drew said he needed to get something out of his locker and that he'd meet me later.

I finally arrived at the band hall with only a few minutes to spare before class started. There were about 150 other students in the room with me, laughing and talking with one another. Immediately I searched the room frantically to see if I could find an empty space to sit. There were only two seats open: one next to some girls laughing loudly and another next to a boy with swishy blonde hair that was texting someone on his phone.

I walked towards the boy and sat down, trying not to make eye contact. He looked up at me and gave me a friendly "Hello," and flashed a charming smile at me.

"Hi there. I'm Alex." I spoke with a reluctant tone.

"I'm Andy! It's nice to meet you Alex." He reached out his hand for me to shake it, and after some hesitation, I gave in to the handshake.

"Has anyone told you that you have really pretty eyes?" I was guessing he was attempting to flirt with me. I wasn't going to flirt back, but I could use all the friends I could get.

"Really? Thanks Andy! That's so nice of you to say!" I attempted a smile that was obviously fake.

"So I was wondering if maybe you'd like to hang out sometime since you're new and all." Guess he didn't notice the insincerity. Don't get me wrong though, he was pretty cute, not really my type though. But we were just gonna hang out, not like a date or anything, right?

"Sure. Maybe after school sometime." I could tell he was happy about this.

"Great! Now I'll just need your number so we can work out the details." Right after we finished exchanging numbers, the band director walked in and began speaking.

"If I could have everyone's attention please! Listen up! I need all students to split into their instrument sections to meet your upperclassmen. Woodwinds into the far corner over there! Brass by the music library! Percussion in the percussion equipment room! Please go to your groups quietly and in an orderly fashion!"

Andy got up and walked towards the brass section as I walked towards the percussion room. I wonder what instrument he played? Personally, I think he's a trumpet. They always have inflated egos.

I walked into the room and sat in an empty chair, facing towards some of the upperclassmen. I noticed one of the chairs they were sitting next to was empty. A short, busty girl stood up and began to introduce herself.

"Hello incoming freshmen. My name is Christy and I am a senior this year. I am the lead quads player." She sat down again and the next person followed what she did, and so on. But while a lanky, tall junior was speaking, someone had whipped the door open and sprinted in.

It was Drew! He was panting rather hard and bent over to put his hands on his knees. "Sorry guys." He paused to take a few breaths before he continued. "I got here as fast as I could. What'd I miss?"

Jeremy, the guy who got interrupted, replied in a harsh tone, "You're not setting a very good example for these freshman, Drew!" He sighed, then continued in an exasperated voice, "Everyone, this is Drew Madison. He's a junior and plays lead snare drum. And if you could believe it, he's also your drumline captain."

I was shocked. Why hadn't he told me before he was drumline captain? I guess I know what "this should be fun" means now.
