HIM:

His smile said he was fine;

His eyes momentarily lit up

With feigned enthusiasm.

But once probing stares turned away,

His face clouded over,

And he thought of how exhausting it was to

Fake his happiness instead of actually

Feeling it.

He felt numb to the universe;

He had no idea why..

He tried desperately clinging to the hope

That his reality would become

Brighter

That he would eventually find an

Escape;

A safe haven.

He kept his head down;

Trying to tune out the world.

Then one particularly sunny

Afternoon, he finally decided to look

Up.

And he was forever grateful he did.

The moment his eyes rested on her, he

Knew.

She was the one to heal the shattered remains of his heart.

He needed a remedy;

She was it.

********************************
HER:

She leaned against her locker

Her clumsy fingers brushing her hair

Behind her ear.

She kept her head down, her

Eyes down,

As if telling everyone;

"I don't want you to notice me."

Which was difficult to ask of them.

Her eyes were a hypnotic electric blue;

The kind that could make anyone

Fall in love with her...

She never knew how many heads she turned;

How much of a mystery she was to

Everyone Else.

She was always there

In the back of their minds;

A mystical question left unanswered,

Constantly being

Pondered.

One day she felt an urge to look

Up..

And was eternally grateful she did.

Her inquisitive, timid gaze met His

Intense, cutting stare.

His face looked as if he had discovered a

treasure that he had been consumed with obtaining.

His face was covered in longing...

Certainty.

And although she didn't even know

This intriguing boy's name,

She returned his same feelings.

She knew she would eventually be swallowed by those deep green galaxies that some people

Called eyes,

Which were filled with pain and

Desire for a better life.

And she also knew

That she was the only one who could ever attempt to mend his crushed spirit.

That she was the only one who wished to travel through his deep maze of thoughts;

To tell him he wasn't alone in his empty world.
