The crowd was so near,
Voices so close.
Everyone smiling,
Happy people,
Happy conversations.
The kelp swayed with the current.
Thick glass separating two worlds.
I was in the wrong one.
I wished for the weightlessness,
The silence of the sea.
There was no love under water.
All my earthly bonds shatter,
Once I break the surface.
I am movement,
Nothing more than the water that surrounds me.
Only there can I truly breathe,
Deeply.
Free of the world,
Suspended in a cold, heartless sea.
My problems melt away,
I leave them on the shore.
I'd breathe in that cold,
I'd drown in that silence.
How peaceful it would be.
But I can only stare through the glass,
Children screaming, running past.
I don't have the sanctuary of sea,
To shield me from my emptiness,
As they run into loving arms.
All I know are arms that sought,
To drown me in the very thing I love.
