Charlotte Field's POV
"What the hell happened?!"
"How am I supposed to know Charlotte?" Jackson exclaimed throwing his hands in the air. "The police found it like this."
"Well who in their right mind would set fire to your motorbike?" I countered as I stared at the utterly destroyed vehicle in front of me.
"Jesus Christ Charlotte, I said I don't know." Jackson yelled as he ran his hand through his hair.
I stepped back slightly, surprised at his sudden outburst.
"Look I'm sorry." Jackson said as he took my hand. "I'm just really pissed off."
"I get it." I said quietly.
"Seriously though. When I find out who did this I'll kill them with my bare hands." Jackson muttered dangerously.
"You need to calm down." I said.
"Why?" Jackson yelled. "This person set fire to my motorbike. They deserve what's coming for them."
"Yes, but it's not your situation to handle. It will just get you in trouble." I said. "The police will handle it. They'll find whoever did this and the person will get in serious legal trouble."
"They better." Jackson muttered.
(Line Break)
I lie on my bed and finish up my homework. I hear the doorbell ring and I groaned. Both my moms had taken Phoebe to dance so I was the only one at home. I pulled myself off my bed and walked down the stairs so I could answer the door.
I finally reached the large crimson door and when I pulled it open I was met with a very upset Avalon. There were large dark bags under her eyes as if she hadn't slept since I had last seen her. Her hair was a mess and she was wasn't wearing makeup, this is Avalon we're talking about and her not wearing makeup is a big deal.
"Charlotte, Jackson is cheating on you!" Avalon breathed out. I realised she must have run over here considering how out of breath she was.
"I can't believe you're actually bringing this up again!" I said raising my voice slightly. I was still upset about the fight I had with my friends at school.
"Charlotte you need to believe me." Avalon pleaded.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked. "It's almost like you want us to break up."
"It's not that." Avalon confirmed. "But you're my best friend, I don't want to see you get hurt. None of us do, that's why we went after Jackson!" Avalon must have seen the anger and disbelief on my face because she quickly continued. "I can prove it."
I scoffed. "How?"
"A sent this to Scarlett, Brielle and I the other day." Avalon said softly, she pulled out her phone and held it up in front my face so could see the picture. On the screen there was a picture of Jackson kissing another girl, there was absolutely no denying it was Jackson. I knew that face anywhere.
"That doesn't prove anything." I stuttered. I didn't want to believe it. Jackson would never cheat on me. He loved me. Right?
Avalon looked at me confusion. "Charlotte..." Avalon trailed off.
"It doesn't mean anything!" I argued. I wasn't sure if I was trying to convince Avalon or myself. "A could have easily photo shopped that picture in order to purposely break Jackson and I up."
Avalon looked down at her shoes and nervously tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. "Charlotte…I don't…I don't think that A photo shopped the picture."
"You think he cheated on me?" I asked, the hurt evident in my voice.
Avalon hunted for words. "Yeah." She said softly
Just hearing her say that broke my heart. To know that my best friends hate my boyfriend so much that they would believe some anonymous source over me really hurt. "A may have tricked you but I'm not falling for that bitch's mind games." I shouted. Ignoring Avalon who was staring at me completely gobsmacked, I slammed the front door behind me and stalked past her, leaving her standing with her mouth hanging open at my doorstep.
As soon as I left my front yard I started running. I wasn't sure exactly where I was going until I turned onto Jackson's street. I slowed my pace and started to walk towards his house. I decided that I would talk to Jackson about this, then everything would go back to normal.
When I reached Jackson's house a smile spread across my face when I saw him standing on the porch alone. I opened my mouth to call out to him but stopped dead in my tracks when another girl walked out of his house and stood beside him.
She had bleach blonde hair and tanned skin, I recognized her from the cheer squad. I wasn't blind, it was the girl from the picture A had sent my friends. The girl walked towards Jackson and wrapped her arms around his neck. He pulled her closer to him and started to kiss her. I was close enough to hear him mutter 'I love you'.
I let out a strangled sob and sprinted away from the house. I used to think those words were only for me, but now I realise that they were for anybody, they have no sincerity, no trust, they're just…words. I felt my heart shatter in my chest as I turned my head and walked away from the person I love…loved.
Tears were blinding my vision and my hair was being whipped wildly around by the wind. I collapsed by a tree and started to sob. I hugged my knees up to my chest and let the tears soak my jeans. He loved her. Jackson loved her. My boyfriend loved someone else. The thought continuously taunted me.
I heard my phone ring. Despite the fact that my vision was still blurry from the tears I pulled out my phone to check the message.
Poor Charlotte!
Broken hearts suck
Oh well, don't say I didn't warn you
-AReading over the message I only cried harder. I hated myself for being so weak but I couldn't help it. I had stood up for Jackson, I had yelled at my best friends for accusing him of cheating on me. They were right. They had always been right. I was a terrible friend.
"Are you ok?" A voice asked softly.
I quickly rubbed my eyes and pushed my hair out of my face. I looked up to meet the face of my questioner. I recognized his face, just seeing it brought back memories I wished would stay hidden.
(Flashback)
Winona's seventeen year old brother Noah rushed through the crowd. He quickly dialled 911, his ocean blue eyes scared. Suddenly everyone in the house started moving, some rushing forward to help Noah, others sprinting out of the house not wanting to be caught in this mess.
I looked down at Winona from the top of the stairs. Suddenly I was scared. This was my fault, she had tripped over me. Willing my numb muscles to move I glanced at her one more time and then sprinted out of the house.
(End of flashback)
"Charlotte?" The same voice asked bringing me out of my thoughts. I reluctantly met the gaze of Noah Callen. I gulped, as if this day couldn't get any worse. Noah was a constant reminder of what had happened to Winona, what I was responsible for happening to Winona.
"Are you ok?" Noah repeated nervously.
Realising what I must look like I rubbed my eyes again hoping to clear away the makeup that was probably running down my face. In all honesty I probably made it worse.
"I'm fine." I replied, my voice cracking as I spoke.
"Are you sure?" Noah asked anxiously running a hand though his brownish-blonde hair. I knew he was trying to be nice to me but I honestly couldn't deal with any of the Callen's right now, even the nice ones.
"I said I was fine." I snapped. I hauled myself of the ground and shoved past Noah.
"Nice talking to you." I heard Noah mutter from behind me.
I felt bad for being so mean to Noah but right now I wanted nothing more than to go home eat a load of Chunky Monkey ice-cream and cry into my pillow.
Broken hearts suck, that's for sure.
