"SHEN YUEEEEEEE!!!"
Yue winced as she heard the familiar loud voice of her best friend shouting her name like a banshee. Soon, she felt herself being lifted off the ground, engulfed in a bear hug. "I miss you, I miss you, I MISS YOU!"
"Yes, I heard you the first time. There's no need to shout! We're at the airport. You don't want to be arrested for disturbing peace and order right? Please put me down now Dylan."
"No. Say you missed me too first."
Yue rolled her eyes. "Fine. I missed you too. Happy?'
She heard him laugh out loud and then he let her go. "Very. Thank you for picking me up."
"You gave me no choice. I am supposed to be at my baking studio now but you guilt-tripped me of how I wasn't there when you left for Boston and how bad of a friend I am."
Dylan grinned and patted her head. "Well, you have to make it up to me right? You're my best friend, the closest person to me and yet when I left two years ago, you're the only one who didn't show up at the airport to see me off. You don't know how sad and disappointed I was."
Yue remembers that day vividly. Two years ago, Dylan had to leave for Boston to get his MBA at Harvard Business School. She deliberately didn't see Didi off as her eyes were swollen from crying all night. Though she was the one who encouraged him to go, the truth is she couldn't bear to see him leave. So she gave him some lame excuse of a last-minute client meeting, one she couldn't back out of.
Plus she's afraid she won't be able to contain herself and blurt out the secret she kept close in her heart for so long.
She is completely and irrevocably in love with her best friend. But she's afraid to say anything because she knows once Dylan learns of her true feelings for him, he would definitely stop being friends with her.
She saw him distancing himself from his female friends once he learns that they like him as more than a friend. Though he's still respectful towards them, the closeness isn't as it used to be. And she doesn't want that to happen to her.
She wants him to stay in her life even if it means suppressing her true feelings for him.
"I am very well aware of your disappointment. You remind me every time you get the chance and use it to emotionally blackmail me. But today is the last day I'll tolerate it. Two years is too long already Di. I'm done doing you favors."
To her annoyance, Dylan just scoffed at her. "You wish. Now that I'm back, you won't get rid of me that easily. I will be glued to your side because I know that you craved for my presence during the time I wasn't here."
It's true that she missed having him by her side. They have been friends since middle school. And they do almost everything together. And the first few months Dylan was overseas studying, was difficult for Yue. But she was not about to admit it to him. His ego is already huge and it doesn't need further boost.
"NO. I am booked for the whole month and have a lot of wedding and birthday cakes to make. Now let's go. I still have a lot of things to do."
With that, she turned and walked away from him to her waiting car, and mentally counted yi, er, san...
"AAAHHHHHH!!! You're really leaving me here without helping me with my luggage? Is that how you treat your best friend now?"
Yue turned around and burst out laughing when she saw Dylan pouting. She immediately went back and gave him a hug. It is the most effective way to prevent a looming Dylan Wang tantrum. "Welcome home Didi!"
Yue laughed more when she heard a 'tsk' from him. But her heart celebrated when he embraced her tight.
Her loud, sulky, handsome best friend is indeed back.
