TEAHYUNG'S POV
Nerve raise in my stomach as I prepare for my first two job interviews. Putting on my best interview outfit and the necktie my best friend Park Jimin bought me for graduation, I look in the mirror and scowl at myself. "I think I look okay." Jimin is my roommate. He doesn't have it hard the same way I do. He is from a rich family. His parent bought us this apartment when we got admission into Seoul National University. The apartment is not that big, but its located in Hannam-Dong. The neighborhood is nice and not so far from the university. Unlike me, Jimin already has jobs lined up for him at a publishing firm his father owned.
Walking into the living room, Jimin is dancing to his favorite boy group songs BTS and Magic Shop is playing loud on the stereo. Magic Shop is also one of my favorite songs of theirs. I will tell you my friend has good taste in music. I pick up the remote to reduce the volume. He turned around to smile at me. He smiles so brightly.
"Tae, are you ready for your big day?" He adjusts my tie and blazer. "Of course, you know how much I want this job?"
"I know. You've always wanted to work at DaeNam Hospital since our first year at the university. I am sure you will get the internship program. Your GPA and exam scores are no joke. Trust me." I walked into the kitchen for a quick glass of milk. However, there is breakfast on the dining table. "Minnie, you made breakfast?" Jimin follows after me and serves the milk in two glasses. "You need your best energy to kick some asses at the interview. Hurry up and eat, you don't want to be late." I wrap my hands around my best friend's body and give him one of my best back hugs. "Thank you for everything; I appreciate them." "Its nothing Tae, now eat." After breakfast, I gather my bag and car keys. I smile at him and head out the door. "I will see you later Tae. Good luck." He waves me bye.
THE ROADS ARE BLOCK as I set out on Seobinggo-ro, towards Han River. Currently, it's 8:14 am. I don't have to be there until 10 am. Fortunately, my car is at his best behavior today. My adopted parent gave it to me when I graduated high school. It's still running. Georgie is an old Toyota Camry. I'm sure it will make the journey in no time. I had my good friend Hoseok take a look at the engines over the weekend. Hobi is not a mechanic, but he has experience with cars.
Getting to DaeNamHospital, I park Georgie in the lower level of its garage space. The parking space is for visitors. I grab my black folder bag - as I head to the 5th floor where the human resources will conduct the interview. The hospital seems busy. I like the feeling I'm getting walking down the hallway. "Hopefully, I will also be an employee here." I graduated from the school of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Growing up, I struggled with weight issues. I was a victim of bullying in high school. To lose some weight, I starve myself. Sometimes after eating lunch, I will lock myself in one of the stalls in the boys' bathroom. I will dip two fingers down my throat just to vomit the content in my stomach. Throughout college, I learned to manage and maintain my eating disorder. Like a Dietician, I can help people going through the same struggle as I did.
I push through an open door that leads to room 5301, where the interview will take place. I stumble through the room, tripping over my legs. I bump into a tall dark-haired man in his mid-twenties. Oh, crap – I just have to be clumsy today of all days. "I'm so sorry sir. I wasn't paying much attention to my surroundings." I picked up my folder. The stranger held his hand out for me to help me up. "It's okay, are you alright?" I looked up at him and took his hand. Our eyes met. He looks excited and smiles at me like we've known each other before this encounter. "I'm alright." Oh wow, he is handsome.
"Daniel?... What are you doing here in Korea? Are you done taking care of the necessary things you plan on taking care of?"
What is he saying? Daniel? Who is Daniel? "I am sorry, my name is Taehyung." I don't think I know who this man is. He seems a bit confused. I look down at my wristwatch "Oh, shit – it's almost time. Sorry again sir, I have to go." I dash out of there and head to room 5301.
I look at my watch again, indicating that I made it on time. I knock on the door as a middle-age black woman told me to sit on a chair located in the corner of the room. I sit nervously waiting for Dr. S. Kim, the Chief Clinical Dietician of DaeNam Hospital. After about 10 minutes, a tall good looking man walks into the room asking for me. "Mr. Kim?" He held his hand out for a handshake. "Yes, sir. I'm Kim Taehyung." I shake his hand and follow him out of the room.
As we leave the room, he led me into a different and spacious room. I will assume it his office since there is a picture of him and another man on the desk. "I read in your cover letter that you are a new graduate at Seoul National University." I was far too gone in my thought; I did not realize he was talking to me. "Mr. Kim?" I regain my consciousness as I sit in front of him. "Yes. I graduated last weekend." Has he looked down at my file, we heard a knock on the door. "Come in." A red hair young woman walks in and sits beside me across from Dr. Kim. "Hello, Dr. Kim." She is beautiful and professionally dressed. "Mr. Kim, this is Jennie Kim, the head of human resources here at DaeNam. She has been with us for several years. She is here to supervise the interview."
"How are you? I'm Kim Taehyung, the applicant." I shake her hand. She looks too young to be the head of human resources. What do I know? "So, Mr. Kim..."
"You can call me Taehyung." "Taehyung, I am impressed with your GPA, as well as your Registered Dietitian Examination result. There is no doubt you are smart. I welcome that in my department. However, is there anything else you could offer my department if I accept your internship application?" I blink at him, carefully thinking about his question. "Dr. Kim, I believe a patient should always be the priority. As you've known, an individual patient has their reasons with which they need dietary advice. So, being tolerant is one of the key-value that a dietician should hold." "Well said, Taehyung."
The interview went on for another 30 minutes. I was dismissed after more questioning. I said my goodbyes and left the hospital. I enjoyed the interview with Dr. Kim. He is very nice and funny. Unlike my second interviewer at a different hospital, he was rather uptight. I wouldn't want to work for him. After the second interview ends at 4:15 pm, I went home to my best friend.
