Kiana's POV:

I woke up the next morning, still next to Chris. He was still asleep, mouth slightly open. I chuckled at the sight of him. I tried to remember last night. I lay there awake for maybe 5 minutes, until it hit me.

After the blunts, I kissed him. I actually kissed him. We went inside, and he found my sweater. Then, we sang together, and I cried for some reason. He held me. I almost whimpered, missing the warmth of him, even though he was right beside me.

I got up, trying to be quiet. I walked into the bathroom and sighed. My hair was a mess, and I forgot to wash my makeup off. I tied my hair into a bun, then began to wash my face. When I opened my eyes, Chris was behind me, smirking.

"HOLY MOTHERLESS GOAT!" I screamed.

He began laughing like a seal, clutching his stomach. I felt so embarrassed, but I couldn't help it. I started laughing with him.

This felt like the start of something unexplainably beautiful. I couldn't put together my thoughts, I was in complete bliss for the first time in two years.

Later:

"Hey Chris, I should head out," I said to him, cracking a smile.

"Alright, I'll walk you home." He smiled at me.

"No, it's alright. You don't have to," I tried telling him, "it's only two blocks away."

"I need to know you're safe, there's a bunch of weirdos around here. And anyway, I want to," he chuckled and I finally agreed.

We walked home, hand in hand, once again. It was silent the whole walk, but the both of us were okay with that. His warmth was enough.

I walked up to my door, and turned to look at him.

"Thanks.. for everything," I brightly grinned at him.

"Yeah, no problem," he whispered while glancing at his shoes.

I kissed him on the cheek, and hugged him tightly.

When I let go, he looked at me with those emerald eyes once again. Then, sparks flew as we leaned in, and our lips touched. It was just right.

I went back into my apartment after we went our separate ways. Since it had been a couple days, I decided to go check on my family. I still cared about them, I just left school. I walked back to my house, and found my parents there.

"Kiana!" My mother said as she ran up to me. I hugged her and my father.

"Where have you been?" my father asked. "You skipped school today?"

"I dropped out," I simply stated, my hands were shaking out of nervousness.

"What do you mean dropped out?" My mom looked at me dumbfounded.

"I quit school. I'm going to get a job somewhere, I don't know yet." I mean, that's what I was going to do anyway. I couldn't get money off of trees. I wasn't so sure my parents were going to loan me any, considering I just quit school.

"What? You can't leave school, you haven't finished senior year. What about Princeton Plainsboro?" My dad said.

"Well, I don't want to. I'm not going to New Jersey to be a nurse or whatever. I don't want to go through all that medical training," I said a little too childly.

"What are you going to do?" My mom yelled at me. This is exactly why I left. My parents won't let me do anything else.

"I'll be 18 in a couple months. I can do whatever I want." I stated harshly.

My parents shook their heads, and looked away. A pang of guilt immediately hit me. I sighed.

"Look, I don't mean to hurt you. But this life that you're training me for," I paused, "is not mine. What's the point of doing something this makes you miserable? I mean, it's my choice, not yours. I need to feel like I'm actually worth something, and not just a petty, good for nothing rich girl." I tried to make them understand. But I knew they couldn't.

"Mom, I can finish school online. I'll look for a job in financing, maybe. I mean, after all these years with your business, at least I can carry on with someone that you'll be proud of. I'll make sure of it," I genuinely meant this. All I wanted to really do was start fresh. I went in way over my head with running away, but I was going to move out anyway.

My dad looked back at me and saw somewhat of almost a smile. "Honey, I'm proud of you for wanting to have all of these responsibilities, but you didn't have to leave. What about your friends? Your volleyball team? What about Derek? You two are happy together."

"Derek cheated on me, I don't care about him anymore. I'm not really close with my friends, and the team can start playoffs without me. Trust me, the coach and the team are going to win championship without me.'' I knew all of this.

"Well at least go to the last game, they'll need your serves. Championship is on Thursday. And everyone knows you're great at the net," she smiled slightly and I nodded. I figured one last game wouldn't be so bad. "God, I never liked Derek anyway," my mom laughed as she embraced me in a tight hug.

"I'll stay here for the week. I'm renting out an apartment over on 3rd Avenue."

"Alright, Nene, we trust you on this. Do you have everything you need? Money for bills? Groceries?" My father placed his hands on my shoulders.

I nodded, "I used part of my allowance for that." I had more than enough.

"Okay, just be careful when you're out there. I wouldn't want you to run into Chris out there. I know that's his 'territory' and such," my mom motioned.

If only they knew.
