03  the mean lady won't take a picture of you and the gun

THE SMALL AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT THAT KILDARE ISLAND WAS RECEIVING WAS GLORIOUS, the sun reflecting off the water in the most beautiful way. Harper's favourite place was on the water, it's where she felt most at peace and most connected to the Earth. When you live somewhere like Kildare island, you learn very quickly to appreciate nature and appreciate where you come from. The engine of the boat let out a steady hum as the group travelled along the water.

Harper turned her gaze to the group, assessing them. Pope, a very smart guy, who plays by the rules, Harper had gotten to know him very quickly while working for his father, he is very much an open book to her. If he wasn't so kind, and she wasn't so open to friendships, they probably wouldn't have become friends. Kiara, a Kook, like Harper, she chose to believe in something more than she was handed. Hippie vibes coming from the girl, someone who cared very much about the environment, someone with an outrageous amount of passion and care for others. She heard a laugh behind her and turned her attention to the blonde.

JJ, loud, obnoxious, compassionate, loyal. She could tell, he was going through or had been through something hard. Damage, can sense damage. And in Harper's eyes she viewed herself as damaged beyond repair. Lastly, she turned her attention to John B, the boy next door type of kid. He had that boyish charm to him, a sweet smile, he was kind and he was struggling. Harper had heard about his father going missing, the whole island had, it had almost been a year.

Harper's mother commented on it all the time, how the man was probably dead, probably overdosed or got in with the wrong people, Isabella was very much a pessimist as well as thinking she was above people who lived on The Cut. Harper knew she was wrong and often fought her, telling her mother that the woman's opinion was outdated, insensitive and downright arrogant. Harper never really had gotten along with her mother, her sister Sophia was the favourite in her mother's eyes, Harper could tell, the two daughters were not treated the same, they never had been.

The group came across the motel to which the key belonged. JJ whistling at the sight of it. "I thought the Chateau looked bad." JJ commented, Harper now confused as to what he was talking about. "Chateau?" She asked, furrowing her brows. "Meaning castle?" She translated the word, not making it any less confusing to her. "Yeah, John B's house." JJ confirmed, Harper nodding, the group were so carefree, she loved it. She definitely felt like they'd vibe. "This place is a shit show." John commented, now standing.
