Chapter 2

Remus's pov

Ivy and I see Virgil open his eyes and he was looking around wildly, as if looking for a killer. "Virgil?" I ask but he doesn't look at me. I place a hand on his shoulder and he jumps so hard he almost falls off the bed and locks eyes with me.

"Virgil?" I ask again but he scrunches his eyebrows together and then he starts looking around frantically. "Hey Buddy, it's ok" I say placing my hand back on his shoulder. He turns to me and points at his ears looking scared. "I can't hear anything!" Virgil yells and I pull him into a hug and Virgil shuts his mouth. After a minute or so I feel Virgil's shoulders shake and my shoulder start to get soaked.

I pat his back as he continues to cry and Ivy joins in, she grabs Virgil and pulls him into her lap.

Virgil's pov

The moment I gain all my senses back I realize I'm in a hospital but I'm confused when I can't hear anything. I slowly open my eyes but quickly close them due to the harsh lights of the room. After a second I open my eyes, but this time I start freaking out about the silence.I feel a hand placed on my shoulder and jump, not realizing that someone else was in the room.

I look up and see Remus sitting in front of me and I see his lips move but can't hear him so I give him a confused look hoping he'll get what I'm trying to get at. I'm scared to open my mouth because I'm scared I'll scream. I see his mouth move again and his hand land back on my shoulder. I know he doesn't get it so I point to my ears and say "I can't hear anything".

He pulls me into a hug and I feel my anxiety spike and I start crying but, I don't want him to see me crying. A few minutes later I let slip that my shoulders are shaking and I feel a much softer hold around my waist and I'm pulled into someone else's lap.

Without even turning my head and I can tell that it's my mother. I feel start running her hand through my hair as a man, I assume who is the doctor walks in and I see a sad look in his eyes. He hands a sheet of paper to my mother and she signs a couple of papers before reading through it.

I see her start tearing up and hand the papers to Remus, she grabs me in a mother bear embrace. I snuggle into her see Remus nod sadly to my mother. He looks at me hands me the papers. I grab them and slowly look through it, my eyes widen when I look at the last page and see the word 'Deaf'.

I turn to my mom with fear in my eyes and I feel her hug me tighter. I see my mom turn to Remus and them start talking, I feel my eyes start to droop and nod off.

Ivy's pov

I feel Virgil start nodding off and I silently swear to get whoever did this to him. He is already an anxious kid but I have a feeling his anxiety is going to spike even more than it already is. I hug him tighter as I hear Remus sigh.

"I feel bad for Virgil, he's already been through so much with the death of his sister, how is Ace going to deal with this?" he asks and I feel my body tense up. "I-I don't know" I answer honestly scared of what's going to happen.

Right then we hear a ding and Remus checks his phone, then he tells me his mother wants him home and I nod in response. A few minutes later the door bangs open and Ace is standing there. "Why the hell won't you home to make dinner and what the hell happened?" he asks storming over to me and grabbing Virgil by the arm, jolting him awake and throwing him off the bed.

I see Virgil start shaking as Ace grabs my arm and slaps me hard enough to draw blood. I feel the warm, thick liquid run down my cheek as I see Virgil start to hyperventilate. "Ace not here, and not in front in Virgil" I whisper and he angrily nods.

I go over and help Virgil with his panic attack and we go to check out. When we walk out I see Ace tense and his eyes dart wildly.

I ignore it and we all get in the car, but Ace is still tense. After we are on the road for about five minutes he pulls off to an old dirt road off the side of the main road and stops halfway through. "Ace what are you doi-" I start to say before he gets out and rips open the back door and pulls Virgil out.

I try to get out too but the door won't open and I see him drag Virgil away. They were gone for about ten minutes, the whole time I'm trying to find a way out of the car and breaking the windows, and finally he returns with a bloody and bruised Virgil and he throws him into the backseat. He has no emotion as he gets back in the passenger seat and starts driving home, the whole while my shoulders are tense and my black hair acts as a shield for my eyes.
