Chapter 5

(Y/N's POV)

"Why the fuck are they are?" Chan whisper yells at Felix. He had pulled him aside earlier to 'talk,' but it soon turned into him just scolding the younger male.

"Chan, they can hear you." Felix whispers back in a softer tone.

Hanyu and I can, in fact, hear them.

Wow, I think. What a warm welcome.

"Answer the question. Why are they here?" Chan repeats.

"They saved my life. What about that do you not understand?" Felix retorts.

Chan sigh. "That still doesn't explain why you'd replace Yerin with them."

"Yes it does. Are you even listening to me? Yerin fucking shot me! These two are the ones that saved me."

The two men continue to bicker.

I'm just confused. I mean, I understand why he's being so paranoid. But then again, Hanyu and I literally saved Felix's life. He could've bled out on the road or, even worse, get bitten.

Whatever. There's no way in hell he can kick us out now. Sucks to be stubborn, I guess.

Actually, no. I shouldn't be saying that. Maybe Yerin just meant a lot to him. Maybe he's just so surprised that he's doubting it. Maybe he just feels hurt..

Wait, why do I care?

I sigh. I've been here for 10 minutes and I'm already stressed.

My face must be showing my emotions because the boy with a squirrel-like face walks over and takes a seat next to me.

"Hey," Jisung says. "You okay? You seem a bit worried." I nod and he smiles. "I know this all seems a bit sudden for you two, but don't stress. It'll be alright."

I nod again. The two of us fall silent.

I find it hard to believe Jisung's words. Will everything be okay? I mean, we live in a world where we carry around weapons to defend ourselves against blood-thirsty creatures while also scavenging for food and water. That's not exactly an 'alright' world.

I guess it's nice to hear that from someone, though. It gives me hope. Hope for a potentially better future. Yeah, maybe this hope will turn into nothing. But it's a possibility. Maybe my new start with these guys will also be the start of a better future for me.

Minho announces to us that we have five more minutes until we get to the bad. I lean my head back as I anticipate my new life with this team.
