Michael Jackson POV:
The crowd was roaring wildly as I concluded the final moments of Smooth Criminal. I had gone with the classic blue and white suit this time around. I was definitely feeling my age. The dancing was exhausting. But it was worth it for the fans here in London.
As I made my way backstage through the shadows the song had ended with, I quickly encountered Prince waiting in the wings. He was decked out in his classic purple attire but with a black leather jacket. I was quick to give him a heartfelt kiss.
It had been about a month since we'd gotten together. It'd been quite the ride. In a matter of weeks we'd gone from being rivals, to best friends, to lovers. It was very charming and romantic.
"You did wonderful out there Spider-Man!" he exclaimed in between kisses. We'd stopped caring if people saw us very fast. Prince had told me that we were getting way too old to care about what people thought of our romantic lives. I agreed wholeheartedly.
I was quickly handed a water bottle, but barely had time to drink it before I was being undressed and redressed into my next outfit. This one was black and shiny, covered in buckles and was for an EXTREMELY last-minute song. Bad.
"Are you sure you wanna do this Prince?" I asked him in between my huffing and puffing. He simply smiled at me before nodding his head.
Before we could continue, a backstage worker was ushering Prince to the opposite side of the backstage area into position. Once my Bad outfit was in place, they did some dabs of makeup before pushing me out the door.
I braced myself for what we were about to do. This was our first time doing this and we both wanted to get it right. This was over 20 years in the making after all.
"Alright you've got this Michael!" one of the producers called to me. I turned and gave him a thumbs up as the beats of Bad began and the crowd went insane.
"Okay go go go!" they shoved me out the curtain. A group of choreographed dancers dressed as thugs followed close behind me as I took a center position in the stage. The opening beats continued on for longer than usual as I stared intently at the curtain on the opposite side.
When Prince strolled out with his own group of thugs, the audience didn't know what to make of it. They were clearly shocked but began to steadily cheer as they realized what was going on.
He walked over in front of me and sang the first verse. I followed with the second. It was a duet. THE duet. The one we were meant to perform over 20 years ago. The long-awaited duet between Prince and myself had begun.
"Well they say the sky's the limit!" I recited from memory.
"Well to me that's really true!" Prince argued (as part of the song of course).
"But my friend you have seen nothin'!"
"Well just wait 'till I get through!"
"Because I'm bad!"
"I'm bad!"
"You know it!"
"You know it!"
As the song progressed the crowd went nuts for it all and if not for the music, the sound of the cameras clicking would've been the loudest thing in this arena.
I hardly ever took my eyes off of Prince's. His eyes glimmered in admiration for my ability before he would promptly attempt to outshine me with the splits. I could feel my face heating up but I kept my head in the game.
"And the whole world has to answer right now, just to tell you once again, who's bad!" we completed in unison. As part of the act, we got real close and angrily stared at one another as the crowd went wild.
I couldn't help breaking character for a moment to look at his lips.
"Are you sure you wanna do this Michael?" Prince asked me anxiously and yet confidently. I smiled at him.
"Of course I am. But Prince, no matter what happens after this...this has been quite the Thriller!" I responded loudly over the audience.
"A PURPLE Thriller I hope!" he responded. And with that, we finally broke the barrier and kissed in front of the entire audience. They all went silent, but for all we cared at the moment the only people here were me and Prince...
