I don't own Avatar the Last Airbender or Naruto. If only...
Toph had insisted on carrying the bag with her stuff in it, despite the fact that it got heavier and heavier as they stopped at more stores.
Kakashi had tried to take it, but she had hissed something about carrying her own weight, and that if he was getting all this stuff for her, she would take care of it.
So, yeah. He guessed he could relate and let her handle it
(He didn't buy any of the heavier stuff, deciding to get things like blankets after leaving her at home.)
They were on their way to his apartment, and Toph's face was flushed from the exertion. Kakashi watched her from behind his book pages as they walked.
She was small for her age, but strong and stubborn despite that. Her whole air was one of determination, not helplessness like he had assumed from reading about her disability.
But no. She didn't even seem to remember that she was blind. She walked as confidently as Naruto did, keeping pace with him, and never seemed to stumble or trip.
They reached the row of apartment buildings, and he got the door for her. She headed inside the complex, then slowed down to wait for him to take the lead again.
He did so, then lead her to his own apartment. It was number 17, and slightly messy, but he was an adult male who lived by himself! That was to be expected.
Nonetheless, Kakashi hit the ground tidying up, and lead the way to the couch in his living room. Toph followed, breathing through her mouth.
"You can stay here," Kakashi lifted a stack of books from the leftmost cushion, than used his free hand to gesture to the small grey couch covered in dog fur.
It was one of the few pieces of furniture that he owned, part of a set of three; the couch, a matching armchair, and the ottoman. Directly across from it was a small bookshelf full of plain books (that most definitely were not his Icha-Icha series). On top of the bookshelf was a set of two swords.
She stopped dead in the entryway.
"It's not very fancy. Or tidy," Kakashi tried to sound apologetic, but he failed miserably. "But I can clean it easily."
She took one step towards him, then froze.
"I can't see," she whispered.

Toph had been very lucky so far. She knew that. Almost everything she had stepped on was either earth or tiles.
Mr Hatakes' floor from the kitchen onwards was carpet covered wood, three stories up from the ground.
She couldn't sense anything from wood.
Toph took a small step towards his voice, feeling her disability for one of the first times in her life.
Nothing happened, so she cautiously took another-
She promptly tripped over something, sending both her and the bag to the floor.
She popped up instantly, but the damage had already been done. The bag was far lighter than it had been before she went down. Flushing, Toph crouched, scrambling for her stuff.
A larger hand met hers, and Kakashi was there helping her pick the stuff up and setting it back into the bag where it belonged.
"Thanks," she muttered, feeling rather embarrassed.
"No problem," he replied.
They got the rest of the stuff in silence, and then Kakashi offered her his hand. Feeling totally helpless, Toph took it.
