I quickly walk into the banquet. I'm over an hour late, and I know Savannah is going to be pissed. Walking in the doors I see everyone is already sitting to eat. "Good I haven't missed dinner."
When I walk in, heads turn to look at me as I search for my wife. When I spot her she is sitting at the table with my parents, her parents, Michael, and Lori. Strolling over I sit next to her. "Sorry I'm late," I say bending and kissing her on the lips.
"You haven't missed anything. It's starting late," my mom says beaming at me.
"Why are you late?" Michael asks.
"I had a stop to make before I came."
Savannah turns and looks at me. She hasn't brought the kids up to me these last two weeks. It's as if she has forgotten I have them.
"So Gabriel, Savannah told me you both were thinking of selling that beautiful home," Karen Savannah's mother states, picking up her wine glass and taking a sip.
"Yes. We are so far out and it would be great to be closer to work and family."
"Yes that would be great, I never understood why y'all moved so far out in the beginning. What happens when you two start having kids?" Jack Savannah's father asks.
"Have you found a realtor?" Karen asks me.
"They are using David, he is thinking of starting his own realtor business and wants to use them as practice," my mom says.
"Has he taken the course? I mean will he be qualified to sell a house?" Jack asks.
The servers have started walking out, sitting our plates in front of us. We are always paying all these thousands of dollars to get bite-size food.
"He's been taking the classes online for over a week now. He could be finished in another two weeks," My dad says. "Genevieve has been taking the class too, she wants to work with David."
My father and mother are not that old. They're still in their fifties so she still has a lot of great years in her, and we all think this is something that she will love to do.
"Genevieve you're going to work?.... A job?" Karen's eyes are bulging out as shock and confusion grow on her face.
My mother waves her hand dismissing her comment. "We are in the 21st-century - women work. Lori is even coming to work with us, doing the office work?"
"You are?" Michael asks - face laced with just as much confusion as Karen's. "What are you going to do with the girls?"
"Daycare and Preschool." She smiles. "Your mother and I have it all worked out. I can bring the baby to work with me sometimes if I need and Gabe offered their nanny."
Michael frowns. "I'm not sure about all of this."
"Stop it, Michael. She wants to work and I for one agree. I loved raising you boys but it always felt like I was missing something," my mother says.
"Well, I don't agree with it. I loved raising Savannah and wished I could have had more kids. I could have not been there for everything if I was working," Savannah mother says.
"Well, Lori will not be missing out. David understands that she wants to be involved. He said she will have help and can work from home a lot of the time but he does want her to run the office."
Lori is just beaming. I can tell this will give her a piece of mind that she hasn't had in a long time.
"Well, Savannah I hope you're not thinking of working? Especially when you have children, ...and you two have a nanny?" Her mother asks.
