"Mr. and Mrs. Stephens, Dr. Foster will see you now." Savannah and I both stand up and head into the office. I've never been to see a psychiatrist so I'm not sure what to expect.
When we step into the room it looks more like an office. There is her desk with two chairs in front of it, and a sofa with a matching chair sitting over to the side.
"Good afternoon I'm Dr. Suzanna Foster." She reaches out her hand.
Grabbing it I shake it. "Nice to meet you I'm Gabriel Stephens."
"Hi, Savannah how are you doing today?"
"I'm great."
"You two can have a seat on the couch."
Savannah and I both sit down as Dr. Foster sits on the chair to the right of us.
"First I want to let both of you know how my group sessions go." She looks back and forth between the two of us. "I first start by asking a question to one person - that person will tell us how they felt about my question. The other person will let them get their complete thought out before they start to talk and tell us how they feel."
Savannah and I both nod and say ok.
"OK, Gabriel as you know Savannah and I have been meeting a few times a week. We've discussed a lot of the recent events that took place in your life that have impacted Savannah in some way." She looks directly at me. "Now Savannah has shared that you recently found out that you have two children from a previous relationship." I don't say anything because I have no clue where she is going with this. Her eyes avert over to Savannah. "Savannah would you like to share your feelings with Gabe?"
Savannah turns and looks at me. "I was really upset to know that you had two children with another woman. It has hurt more, that you don't include me in their lives. You know how much I want children, and I really want to be there for you and them." She rests her hands on my arm. I raise an eyebrow and look down at her manicured hand wanting to push it off.
"Gabriel do you have something to say?" Dr. Foster asks.
"No not really because we have discussed this already. The children were conceived before we were married. I also discussed with Savannah before we got married about my inability to stay faithful to her and that I most likely would have sexual relationships with other women. I gave her the options not to be with me and Savannah on her own free will stayed."
Dr. Foster writes this down in her notebook.
"So Gabriel are you in a sexual relationship with your children's mother now?"
"Yes. I am, and I'm not going to stop. I love her."
Dr. Foster's eyes grow wide and Savannah gasps at my words. "What did they want me to do, lie?" I muse.
After writing in her notebook she turns to Savannah again. "Savannah, how do you feel about what he has revealed to you?"
"This hurts so much," Savannah starts with the waterworks. "To know the man you love is in love with another woman...it hurts because I love him so much. That's the only reason I agreed with the cheating. I thought eventually he would only want to be with me."
"Gabriel, do you have anything to say about how Savannah feels?"
"I'm sorry that she is hurting. My intentions were never to hurt her, but Savannah and I were having problems before I found out about the kids. And before Ember came back into the picture. She likes to pretend everything is fine." Sitting back a little I look at Savannah "The only reason she is here now is that she thinks I will have a baby with her."
