"I'm walking in the doctor's office now," I tell Ember over the phone. "I will call you back when I leave here."
When I open the door I see Savannah sitting in the waiting room her eyes light up when she sees me. This is her first prenatal visit since having the procedure. She never holds a baby for more than five weeks so they had her wait until she was at least eight weeks along to have her first visit.
"Gabe I'm so glad you came."
"I told you I would be here," I say sitting across from her.
She nods. "I can't believe I'm almost in my second trimester. I read I won't start feeling movements until about twenty-five weeks." My eyes roam over her face and she has this glow about her.
"Have you been making sure you take your vitamins?"
"Yes. My hair has been growing like crazy. I have to get it cut about once a week."
"Any nausea or anything like that?"
"No, this pregnancy is going great."
Smiling, I nod. To be honest I'm a little excited to see my baby on the ultrasound. I missed this with Bash and Sweet Pea, so I don't want to miss anything with this one.
"How are things going with you?" Savannah asks.
"Everything is going well. This is dad last week in the office, so things have been a little hectic with that."
"Great and the kids?"
I hesitate to answer, not wanting to do anything that may upset her - I choose my words. "They are great. Bash birthday is in a couple of weeks, right before school starts.
"What are you doing for his birthday?"
"Disney."
"That will be fun. I know he will like it."
"Savannah Stephens," the nurse says standing by the door. We both get up and head into the back. I hold Savannah's purse while she gets her vitals and weight taken. She's given a cup for a urine sample. Feeling my phone vibrate I pull it out and see a text from Stone.
Stone: I have someone on it. Will give you an update to know when to strike.
I stick my phone in my pocket relieved that this problem will be taken care of soon. After about four minutes Savannah comes out of the bathroom.
"Ok, we are going to head to the ultrasound room first. Then you will get to meet with the doctor."
"Ok," Savannah says smiling.
When we get in the room Savannah is instructed to pull her shirt up and pants down on her hips and put the sheet over her pants. After about ten minutes of waiting the ultrasound tech comes in.
"Good evening," the guy says. "Let's get pictures of your baby." He squirts a little gel on Savannah's stomach and uses the wand to bring a grey image on the screen. He's quiet. Walking closer I stand on the side of the bed waiting for the guy to point out our baby. Looking down at Savannah I can still see her bright smile on her face.
The guy clicks around a bit squinting but not saying anything. "Um let me get the doctor," he says. Savannah's head snaps to me and she reaches for my hand. I grab her hand and give it a squeeze.
About five minutes later the doctor comes in with the ultrasound tech. "Hi let's just take a look because I know you have questions," He says, grabbing the wand. He moves the wand around clicking a button every so often. When he's done he grabs some paper towels. He passes a few to Savannah.
