How do I describe a character in first person POV?
Describe your MC slowly, not all at once. I am very guilty of doing this, and many authors are but it is much more natural to sprinkle in little bits here and there, eventually they all add up.
good examples:
I knew that my green eyes were glowing because I caught a glimpse of them in the rear view mirror of the car.
I stretched my long legs out in front of me, placing them on my best friend's lap comfortably.
I sloppily gathered my long, thick, brown hair into a ponytail to keep it out of my face as I ran onto the field. Tucking the flyaway strands behind my ears as I ran.
bad examples:
I have blue eyes, brown hair, and I'm tall for my age, standing at 5'7. I have fair skin and in the summertime, I have freckles that cover my skin. Everybody at school calls me a tomboy, but I just wear what I want. I don't care what people think.
Show. Don't Tell
If your character is a tomboy. Don't say the word tomboy in your book. Describe what the character wears and how they act, and let your readers figure it out for themselves.
