Claire's POV

All I can see is a bright light as my vision slowly clears up for me to realize that I am laying on a bed in the infirmary of the Red Army. I attempt to use my arms to push myself up into a sitting position before a sharp pain from my right shoulder causes me to hiss and fall back down on the bed making a huge creak.

"Oww."

I attempt to push myself back up one more time. As I was beginning to lift my head off the pillow Kyle appears out of nowhere, putting one hand on my back and the other on my left shoulder slowly urging me to lay back down.

"Oi, what are you doing? You are in no shape to be getting up right now. If you need anything I'll get it for you."

"Wow...How responsible of you Kyle."

I softly chuckle before suddenly stopping due to the pain it caused me. Using what little strength I had I softly said my gratitude.

"Thank you for everything."

"You never need to thank me Claire. I'll always be there to help you."

Kyle says in his usual serious but laid back tone, but why is his smile so sad?

I have this thought running through my head until my eyelids become heavy and I begin to drift into sleep.

Kyle's POV

As I'm looking down at Claire who is peacefully resting on one of the beds in the infirmary my chest begins to tighten in pain.

A few hours prior...

I'm tightly holding onto Claire as I race down the halls of the Red Army to get to the infirmary. Once inside, I lay Claire gently on one of the beds and quickly lock the doors. After gathering all the supplies I need in order to treat her wounds I slowly remove her white coat and blouse off her shoulder bandaging the deep gash left by who knows what. But whatever did must have to be extremely strong in order to break Claire's defences. Once I finish applying the bandages on her shoulder, I reach to fix her blouse back in place but it slips down to the lower part of her back. What I see makes my hands clenched into fists, there is heavy scarring all over her back from straight scars to jagged ones with some old and others new. I gently trace my hand over all the scars on her back, my chest begins to tighten in pain and my knuckles turn white. My thoughts begin running wild.

"Why...Who would do this to you?"

I slowly bring her into my embrace with her body lying peacefully against my chest. I give her a small kiss against her forehead before gently laying her against the bed and rising from my position next to the bed to exit the infirmary.

"I will never let you get hurt like that again."

I promise myself as I close the door to the infirmary.

Early the next day... (Claire's POV)

I wake up to the sound of birds chirping through an open window in the infirmary. I once again push myself up, having my shoulder feeling sore as well as numb. Slowly placing my feet onto the floor, I rise up reaching for my clothes which have been cleaned and repaired. Slipping on my silver boots I walk towards the doors to the infirmary and as I'm about to push them open someone on the other side is pulling on the door causing me to bang head first into someone's broad chest.

"Owww, What in the world?"

I groan and look up to see Jonah's angelic features staring down at me surprised.

"Claire?! What are you doing? You should be resting right now."

He furrows his brow talking in an overprotective and concerned tone slowly urging me back to bed. I slowly push him away and face him with serious but grateful eyes.

"Jonah don't worry, I'm doing better now. There are other things that require attention other than my health. I'm going to see Lance now, see you later."

I give him a small smile before taking long quick strides towards Lance's office.
