If you're starting out on creating an original character, you first need to come up with a vague understanding of your character before delving any deeper. Whether you're starting the narrative with your cat already grown or just a mere kit, you need to think of what could motivate your character.

Motivation is very important. It's the reason behind your cat's actions. Also, keep in mind perspective. If your character is very young, maybe they wouldn't remember a tragedy well, or be able to comprehend all the details of what's going on around them.

Do you remember everything about your childhood? You could use your own experiences as a starting point.

Have your character's morals, beliefs, attitude, etc. tie into experiences to make them impactful. anyone can say they had a hard life, but what matters is how our past effects and influences our present.
