Just want to give another shout out to Soul_Of_A_damned for giving me the idea for the title! Thank you again!
This is a very short story (3 chapters) because it was for a Uni assignment and I had a word limit of 2500. I thought I'd post it here to see what you all think. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I hope you all enjoy.
Annabeth figured the fact that the Argo II had not been blown out of the sky yet was a good thing. The flying warship was certainly a sight to behold, and Annabeth really wasn't sure that Leo's magical scroll would have convinced the Romans that they were not a threat. Even though the scroll was Annabeth's idea, she was doubting herself now as they got closer to Camp Jupiter. She turned away from staring at the crowd of Romans gathered below them when she felt a light tap on her shoulder, coming face to face with Jason Grace. The son of Jupiter was part of Hera's little exchange plan, swapping Percy and Jason and sending them each to the opposite camp with no memory. Jason smiled at her nervously, hesitating for a moment before opening his mouth. 'Leo says we're about to reach the ground. How are you feeling?'
Annabeth thought for a moment, unsure on how to answer. In the days since Percy went missing, she had been a mess, constantly crying and yelling at others. She had calmed a little since they managed to work out where he was but the only thing that had really changed was that she went back to only crying when she was alone. She hated other people seeing her so weak and broken.
'I'm... okay. A bit nervous... What if he doesn't remember me?' She whispered the last part, the thought terrifying her.
'I have most of my memories back now, I'm sure he does too,' Jason smiled assuredly, more certain than she was that Percy would remember.
Annabeth resumed looking over the side of the ship, scanning the crowd of Romans glaring up the ship, some of them holding weapons. She could faintly hear a girl's commanding voice shouting something about weapons, she hoped it was to put their weapons away. Suddenly the ship hit the ground hard, sending Jason and Annabeth sprawling across the deck. Shortly after, once the ship had stopped shaking, Piper walked up the stairs rubbing the back of her head, a furious look on her face.
'Leo! What did we say about landing softly?' Piper stormed over to the control room as she yelled, Annabeth unable to control to small grin that crossed her face. She and Jason climbed to their feet, glancing over the railing to see that the Romans had thankfully not aimed their weapons at the ship... yet. Just after a ramp slid out from the side of the ship, Leo and Piper emerged from the control room, with Leo now rubbing his head. 'Geez beauty queen, did you have to hit me so hard?'
'Yes,' Piper replied simply, a grin stretched across her face as the pair walked over to Annabeth and Jason. The group walked downstairs to the lower level, Annabeth hesitating at the doors. Piper looked back at her with an encouraging look, spurring Annabeth forward. The four of descended down the ramp, Annabeth's eyes scanning the crowd for Percy, but instead all she found were the eyes of Roman soldiers glaring at her group. Annabeth could feel her breaths getting quicker the longer she looked, her hands balling into fists at her sides as she tried to contain herself. Suddenly the crowd parted to make way for a girl in a purple toga, her long dark hair blowing in the wind behind her. Annabeth immediately recognised her as the girl Jason had remembered, Reyna, the praetor of Camp Jupiter. Her eyes assessed the four of them, lingering on Jason before turning her gaze to look at Annabeth, a hard look in her eyes. Annabeth fixed her with a glare that would have made Athena proud, focused only on finding out where Percy was.
'Percy Jackson. Where is he?' Annabeth asks harshly before Reyna has the chance to speak, the other girl seemingly shocked that the Greek demigod would dare speak first. Jason grabs Annabeth's arm, worriedly glancing between the two demigods, but she just shrugs him off, never tearing her gaze from the praetor.
'How dare you-' Reyna starts to speak, her tone just as harsh, but Jason cuts her off. 'Reyna. I'm sorry about Annabeth, she's just worried. We were expecting to find Percy here,' Jason's voice was calm and controlled as if he was trying not to anger either girl further. Reyna turns to look at him, glaring for a moment before softening her gaze.
'Jason Grace. You've finally returned home... Percy is waiting for us in the senate building,' the tone is a little softer now. Reyna turned and abruptly walked away, towards an array of buildings. The roman cohorts follow her, Jason gesturing for the Greek demigods to follow.
