A second later Annabeth was kissing Percy back, wrapping her arms around his neck as his moved to her waist. Annabeth could have sworn she heard Piper squeal, but all of her focus was on the man in front of her. They had spent eight months apart and she had been waiting to be reunited with Percy since he went missing. Her hands tangled themselves in his hair, Percy's hands pulling her impossibly close, the couple keeping a tight grip on each other.
After a minute she pulled back just enough to rest her forehead against his, their eyes locking as a few tears fell down her cheek. Percy moved a hand up to gently wipe them away, smiling softly at her. 'I missed you so much,' She whispers, hugging him tight as he buries his face in her hair, both of them just taking in each other's presence.
Then she pulled back, startling Percy a little, and punched him hard in the stomach. Roman soldiers cry out in rage and surge forward to grab her as Percy groans and hunches over, holding his stomach. Upon seeing the Romans moving towards Annabeth, Percy quickly yells at them to stand down, Reyna following his lead shortly after. The soldiers keep their distance but watch carefully, glaring at the blonde. Percy stands back up slowly, his usual trouble-maker grin gracing his face as he looks at his girlfriend. 'Was that really necessary Wisegirl?' She fixes him with a glare, Percy visibly cowering, confusing the Romans. Annabeth figured they were probably wondering how the great Percy Jackson could be scared of his girlfriend.
'Eight months Percy! You've been gone for eight months and when I finally arrived here, you weren't there... I thought you forgot me...' Her voice breaks as she finishes, feeling Percy's arms wrap around her again as he whispers apologies in her ear, explaining quietly that Reyna asked him not to make a scene. Percy then explains his dream from Hera, and when he told her why he didn't forget her, another tear falls down her cheek. Annabeth was thrilled that Percy had never forgotten her, and she knew that if a goddess couldn't erase her from Percy's mind, it must mean that they were meant to be together.
Annabeth heard Reyna call for everyone's attention, 'If we can get back to the meeting now, please. We still need to discuss the seventh demigod.' Reyna gives Percy a dirty look for interrupting the meeting. Everyone resumes their seats, Percy reluctantly walking back over to his after kissing Annabeth once more. Once everyone is settled Annabeth stands up again, all eyes turning to her. 'I think that I'm the seventh. My mother came to me in a dream and more or less told me so.' Annabeth was reluctant to share more details of her dream, it having been particularly unpleasant. She could feel the weight of the cursed silver coin her mother had given her in her pocket, having to resist the urge to pull it out.
The Romans were clearly displeased with the idea of another Greek being the seventh member, Octavian once again opening his mouth. 'Absolutely not! We cannot allow a daughter of Athena on this quest! She is not a suitable candidate.' Every time he had opened his mouth Annabeth felt a growing resentment towards him, and now that resentment had turned to anger. All of her friends looked furious, knowing what Annabeth was capable of. Surprisingly though, Reyna was the one to speak up first. 'Octavian I've had enough of you. Percy has spoken... highly of Annabeth, and since he is our praetor we will trust his judgment,' Reyna turns to look at Percy before continuing, 'do you approve of Annabeth being the seventh member of this quest?' After a nod from Percy, Reyna starts to dismiss the Romans, but Percy quickly interrupts once again. 'Hang on a second. Before everyone leaves... Jason I don't want to be praetor. This is your camp, and you were praetor before we were swapped so you should have it back.' Octavian and a group of demigods surrounding him start shouting, claiming that Percy can't just give Jason back his praetorship, but Reyna quickly shuts them up. Reyna called for a vote on whether Jason should resume his place as praetor, taking Percy's place, and the majority said yes. Jason and Percy shake hands, grinning at each other. Reyna then dismisses the Romans, Annabeth watching them as they all file out of the building, leaving just the seven and Reyna.
Percy walks over to Annabeth and sits beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder as she leans into him, intertwining their fingers in her lap. Jason, Leo and Piper sit on their left and Frank and Hazel on their right, Reyna standing in front of the group. They all stay silent for minute before Piper speaks up, 'When should we leave? We have to go to Rome, so it's going to be a long journey.'
Jason nods and looks at each of the seven, 'We should leave now. We don't have time to waste.' With all eight of them in agreement they start to head back towards the Argo II, Annabeth and Percy walking behind everyone else. Annabeth looks up at him with a smile, Percy smiling back at her. When they reach the Argo II, they bid farewell to Reyna before heading to the deck, Annabeth following Leo to the control room to help him get the ship moving.
Once the Argo II had set sail, and Annabeth had playfully whacked Leo for teasing her about Percy, she heads back to the deck. After introducing herself to Hazel and Frank, she asks them what kind of trouble Percy had been getting himself into, but before they can tell her they hear Piper and Percy walking up the stairs, Percy marvelling at the construction of the warship. When he spots Annabeth, he runs over and hugs her tight, kissing her head. 'This ship is incredible. I hear you helped design it?' He looks down at her with a grin, pinching her side playfully making her giggle. 'Yes, seaweed brain I did.' Percy's grin gets bigger, leaning down to kiss her deeply before resting his head against hers, 'I missed hearing you call me that.' He mumbles, eyes closed as they stand there wrapped in each other's arms. He moves his head to her shoulder, pressing it against her neck and kissing it softly, Annabeth running her hands through his hair and playing with it as he hummed softly. Annabeth is vaguely aware of the demigods on the other side of the deck, not noticing they had moved away. Annabeth glances up to see Piper grinning at the young couple as the other four stands near her, talking. Though Piper was a daughter of Aphrodite she was nothing like her other siblings, who only cared about their looks and were not very good in a fight. Piper was definitely a fighter, so it was strange that she was looking at Annabeth and Percy like she wanted to squeal with excitement. I suppose she can't escape all aspects of being Aphrodite's daughter, Annabeth thought as she smiled back at Piper.
Annabeth tugged lightly on Percy's hair, so he'd look up at her, the confused look on his face making her smile more. Annabeth loved the look on Percy's face when he was confused, it was very cute. Annabeth kissed the tip of his nose gently, making Percy blush. The smile left Annabeth's face as she became serious, moving her arms so they were around his waist and resting her head on his chest. 'I love you, seaweed brain. Promise me you won't leave me again.' Annabeth knew it was stupid of her to ask Percy to promise her such a thing, demigod's lives were unpredictable. But the question didn't bother Percy at all, and without hesitation he responded, 'I love you Wisegirl. If I get a say I'll never leave your side again.' Percy hugged her tightly, Annabeth smiling again as she was encased in his warmth.
As Annabeth's head rested against Percy's chest, she listened to his heartbeat, the steady beating reminding her that they were finally back together.
