Percy was furious with his co-praetor Reyna. She had demanded that he wait in the senate for her to return with the new arrivals, telling him that he'd cause a scene. Of course, Percy knew she was probably right, but he was dying to see Annabeth. She had been the only thing Percy had remembered when Hera took his memories. At first he had thought that it was because Hera was merciful, but it turned out that was not the case. She had visited him in a dream the night before to tell him that she had tried to take Annabeth from his memories but could not. Percy was confused at first, until Hera grumpily explained that their bond was too strong for even a goddess to wipe her completely from his memory. She then grumbled something about Aphrodite being right before the dream ended.
When Percy had woken he felt a pang in his chest, realising that it all made sense. He and Annabeth had been friends since they were twelve years old, and though they had only been dating a few months before he disappeared, considering all they had been through together he knew there was no one else he'd rather spend his life with. Annabeth was all he could think about as he paced the room, his new friends, Hazel and Frank, trying to coax him to sit down.
He stopped suddenly when he heard people entering, Reyna leading everyone in. He searched desperately for Annabeth as Reyna walked up to him. 'Sit Percy.' She commanded as she stood in front of him, gesturing to one of the two praetor chairs behind him.
'I need to find Annabeth,' He mumbled, but she grabbed his arm and reminded him that he was not to make a scene. After a quick heated argument (which Percy lost) he reluctantly sat down in his chair, pouting as his eyes continued to search the crowd for a pair of striking grey ones. Suddenly he saw her making her way to the front of the room, and their eyes locked. Percy made a move to get up, but Reyna quickly noticed and pushed him back down, ordering everyone to take a seat. Annabeth and three other demigods took a seat at the front, Percy recognising Jason from the pictures he had seen. Percy couldn't help but stare at Annabeth, but Annabeth was focusing on Reyna, listening to what she was saying.
'Demigods of Camp Jupiter. Today we convene to discuss the Prophecy of Seven. Octavian you have it committed to memory yes?' She turned to look at Octavian, Camp Jupiter's augur. Percy hated the guy, all Octavian wanted was power and he'd try anything to become praetor. He was furious when Percy got the position after only being at camp for a few weeks.
'Yes Reyna, of course. Seven Half-bloods shall answer the call. To storm or fire the world must fall. An oath to keep with a final breath, And foes bear arms to the doors of death.' A visible shudder went through the crowd. Prophecies were never something a demigod wanted to hear, they always brought death and destruction. Before anyone else could say anything Octavian continued speaking. 'I think it would be in the best interests of everyone that seven Roman soldiers go on this quest. After all, we are the strongest demigods'
Jason stood up and glared at Octavian, 'listen here you little-'
Percy quickly stands up to cut Jason off, 'Octavian sit down. The Greek demigods are just as strong and worthy as you Romans are. I believe Jason, Piper, Leo, Hazel, Frank and I are definitely six of the seven.' Percy glared at Octavian as he spoke, trying to resist punching the augur in the face for his insults against his friends. Octavian glared at Percy, furious with his choices.
'Reyna you cannot possibly think these... Greeks,' He said the word with disgust, 'could be better than our soldiers?' He fixed her with a stare, daring her to disagree which is exactly what she did. 'Octavian, judging from the things that have happened these past few months it is clear that these are the demigods for this quest.' Reyna's voice carried enough authority and annoyance that Octavian sat back down, glaring at her.
Percy took the opportunity to look back over at Annabeth, his heart breaking when he saw her. Piper was holding Annabeth's hands as she whispered something in her ear, Percy realising that she was shaking. It took him another second to realise that she must be crying and that Piper was trying to calm her down. He knew Reyna had told him not to make a scene, but he also knew Annabeth was crying because she thought he didn't remember her.
Percy stood up abruptly, interrupting Reyna saying something about who the seventh demigod should be. Reyna tried to get his attention, but Percy quickly made his way over to Annabeth, Piper letting go of her as she saw Percy getting close. He grabbed Annabeth's arm gently and pulled her up so that she was standing in front of him. His hands moved to her face, brushing her blonde curls back. Annabeth looked up at him, eyes wide with shock as she stands their frozen.
'I'm so sorry Wisegirl...' Percy whispered before pulling her face to his, connecting their lips in a long-awaited kiss.
