(A/N: Nolan baby would be addressed as Feng Chen in this arc. Please enjoy :))
It's been a day since Feng Chen and LiJuan had started their journey back to the base. Feng Chen hadn't told her yet where they were going, neither did LiJuan bother to ask him. She would have wandered here and there if it wasn't for this young man, anyways.
After a day, LiJuan finally managed to muster enough courage to ask the man his name. The introduction was simple.
Luckily they hadn't encountered any zombies all day, thanks to LiJuan. She could sense immediately if there would be any horde of zombies nearby. Thus, they would change the route because Feng Chen wasn't healed completely.
Feng Chen a.k.a Nolan decided to take LiJuan to military base despite the horrible fate that had been written in the plot for LiJuan because he knew that the cure of this virus was indeed related to LiJuan. She was the key to the cure.
For now, he has to wander near the base without being noticed. The information he got from Nine was that other zombies levelled up as they absorbed crystals of other weaker zombies. The virus made the life force of a living being gather in the main part of the brain where it condensed into a crystal.
This lifeforce crystal was then only like a power source for the dead as their lifeforce was already retrieved from their organs. Later in the plot, when Feng Chen killed LiJuan, the female lead got full access to do all kind of experiments on the corpse of LiJuan.
She found the miraculous crystal then. It not only helped the research team in finding the cure but also in upgrading the strength of soldiers who protected the base and went in the search of resources.
He had a theory that he had to confirm. If it really worked then it will make his task easier of protecting the innocent fool of a zombie, LiJuan.
"We will stay here tonight. That building is closed up and there aren't many entrances. It will be safer." LiJuan was looking around, surveying the surroundings. They had been going on from days now but to no destination.
It wasn't like she had any particular place she wanted to go. Her memories were becoming hazy day by day. However, the thought of protecting this person who showed her kindness in this cold world was the most prominent thought. She was glad that thanks to her zombie senses she was able to keep him safe.
She nodded at Feng Chen shyly but it wasn't noticed by the man because of her dirty hair covering her face.
"T-there....is n-no.....zombie...h-here." She spoke slowly in her hoarse voice. She couldn't talk properly because of her damaged vocal cords. Her body was decaying just like other zombies.
Feng Chen just walked into the small double-storey building. It had a small wooden door from where they had entered. The inside was bigger than the front of the building. Bookshelves littered the whole place. It was a bookshop. There was no furniture left; not unscathed furniture at least.
Some books were lying on the floor while some were still on the shelves. It looked like the place was immediately evacuated after the apocalypse started.
Feng Chen looked sidewise at LiJuan who was looking around like a lost puppy. Her dull eyes were exceptionally wide at the moment which expressed her amazement.
LiJuan felt a stare at her and looked in the direction it came from however there was nothing. She ignored the thought of someone being there as she couldn't sense any lifeforce.
"Let's survey the whole area once just for reassurance." Feng Chen suggested. She turned towards him and before she could nod he had already left to look through the aisles.
