Yalda Rahela. She raised her hand as her name was called out. All the heads turned to her as she was to introduce herself to her class. She hadn't planned what to say about herself while she was listening to the others. What would the shortest and the best words be to tell her properly? She didn't want to seem stupid. She didn't want to utter even one useless syllable and disappoint those curious eyes waiting for getting to know her. So what?
"Hi. I just ran away from my home in Afghanistan. This was because I was fed up with my pseudo-life, the control of which didn't belong to me at all. I am here because from now on I want to lead my own life with my own decisions. I am 28 and that is a long enough experience on earth to make radical changes about one's life for her own good."
No.
Of course she said none of these.
She only smiled and said "Hi. I am happy to be here."
That explained her current mood thoroughly.
That was it. Now she was ready to take a step back, watch people, make her observations and choose her next steps accordingly.
People always thought she was made of ice when they first saw her. She couldn't deny it. This was her deliberate intention. Her experiences had taught her to take the first steps herself towards people. She had always been cautious about that. Because only then, she could determine the limits and let people get into her life on her boundaries.
No need to say that wasn't the case with her fiance. That couldn't have been. Even if she had been asked, she wouldn't have taken any steps though.
It was decided on behalf of her. She didn't have a chance to observe! Or a reason. From the very beginning on, she knew in her heart that that marriage would never come true though.
How was he feeling now? Heart broken? Cheated? Worried about her?! Of course he was only embarrassed! His wife-to-be had abandoned him and walked away. People were talking. He had to cope with this first.
She felt sick. She shooed off sickening thoughts and took a deep breath.
That was all behind.
For the time being.
