                                                           One Day To Late

Hathor knelt beside the fading Altha'ari, his blood flowing from the wound freely now she knew it would not be long before he left this world. The black heart of Anubis started glowing in her hand, a golden light that grew stronger the closer she held it to Altha'ari. She started to hypothesize in her head. Anubis could not take Altha'ari's soul when he tried, and Altha'ari was the one that was destined to kill Anubis, but was prophetically determined to die in the fight. Hathor thought to herself if Altha'ari's soul was too strong for Anubis to claim, maybe he could absorb Anubis essence.

Hathor placed the crushed organ against the chest of Altha'ari. She waited in silence as the heart started glowing brighter and brighter until it peaked, and then the entire thing turned a grey, flat color. Altha'ari did not move. Hathor looked on waiting for any sign of hope, but was slowly beginning to realize the prophecy had been partially right.

" Altha'ari!" Came the voice of Tara. " What has happened to him! Who are you?!"

" I am sorry miss Alabu'." Hathor answered.

" That slash on his chest! That is Anubis' head too!" Tara came once more. " What has happened here? The sky rained blood! This can't be! We killed Anubis!"

" He returned, and absorbed my father." Hathor returned. " I am sorry, but he died to end any chance that Anubis had at destroying the realm of the living. He died to save us all."

" This cannot be happening!" Tara cried, starting to become hysterical now she reached down and shook Altha'ari.

" Tara." Hathor touched her. " It is over child."

" It can't be!" Tara screamed.

" It is, but if it is any consolation I can promise you this. That man loved you with all that was in him." Hathor stated.

" How do you know this?" Tara asked, tears wetting her cheeks.

" I know everything my child. He looked at you like you were the most beautiful thing on the planet. He spoke of you as if you were the only thing worth living for. He thought of you as he felt the weight of the world falling to his shoulders." Hathor explained.

" He was everything to me as well." Tara started.

" Then why did you shut him out? Why did you leave him wondering why? He felt as if he weren't doing enough and went in search of what you might really be looking for, but excuses are all you will ever find in search of false love." Hathor shamed her.

" For a god who claims to know everything you sure don't know a thing about me." Tara snapped. " Leave us, now!"

Tara turned her back to Hathor for a moment, upset of what she had heard, but turned back to apologize for her words only to find Hathor gone. She cried over Altha'ari's body for a moment, pausing to remove the black heart from atop his chest, and as she did so Altha'ari coughed loudly. He started to cough, and shake violently until finally he jerked awake, spotting Tara he instantly grabbed her and snatched her in close. He hugged her tight, him smiling, amd her crying loudly at the thought of almost losing him.

" Oh, Altha'ari i thought I had lost you forever!" Tara cried.

" What, I just had to take a nap. I'm beat." Altha'ari joked.

" Well don't you ever take another nap on me again or I'll put you to sleep for real this time." Tara said, shaking her fist at him.

" Woah, easy there lioness." Altha'ari joked again, squinting at the pain in his ribs.
